Philanthropist Marilyn Schlossbach’s New Cookbook: “Eat This Community”

    in Radio

Marilyn Schlossbach is well known at the Jersey Shore and beyond as a chef, restaurateur and philanthropist. Now she’s adding another moniker to her impressive credentials – cookbook author. And because this is Marilyn’s cookbook, it will be a showcase of her community involvement and is aptly titled Eat This Community. We’ll get all the details about the new cookbook and when it will be available. Profits from the cookbook will be used to support some of her favorite causes, among them the Kula Café in Asbury Park, which is a collaboration with Interfaith Neighbors, and Clean Ocean Action, an environmental organization that works to protect coastlines and marine environments. Marilyn is a self-taught chef and entrepreneur who went from marketing student, to waitress, to the chef du cuisine of Oshin, one of NJ’s first Asian Fusion restaurants to open in the 1980s. She has not looked back since first stepping behind the line in 1982 to cover for her brother and head chef at Oshin, spending the last 30 years developing her culinary style through travel, self-instruction, and an unwavering passion for gastronomy. In 2014, she was named one of NJ’s 2014 Best 50 Women in Business by NJBIZ, NJ’s premiere business news publication. Marilyn was also named one of NJ’s Top 25 Leading Women Entrepreneurs of 2014, as announced by the Leading Women Entrepreneurs and Business Owners (LWE) Initiative. Each year they choose a group of business women who exhibit outstanding performance and achievement in business and marketing innovation, community involvement, and advocacy for women. Table Talk: Cooking Up a Cookbook

    in Caregiving

We're creating a CareGiving cookbook which we'll sell to raise money for our CareGifters program. Through our CareGifters program, we send $500 to a family caregiver in need as often as we can.

Two members of CareGiving.com cooked up the idea for our cookbook: Mar, who cares for her husband, and Lillie, who cares for her mom. Mar and Lillie will share more about the cookbook as well as their caregiving experiences during today's show.

    About Lillie:

Lillie is single, 56 years old and sole caregiver to my 88 year old for her mom, who is a victim of several strokes. She two children, two stepchildren and three grandsons. She's been caring for her mom for the past 17 years. She also cared for her dad and helped care for her paternal grandmother and a lifelong neighbor.

    About Mar:

Mar joined caregiving.com in February 2015. She was a long-distance caregiver for her mother, whom she lost one year ago. She and her husband also lost both of his parents in 2014. In between those losses, her husband Tom received a diagnosis of a degenerative and progressive disease which places her as an expectant and freshman caregiver in The Six Stages of Caregiving. The expected timetable for his illness is two to 10 years, with eight years the average. She came to caregiving.com with the intent to add to her support system and to begin to build a set of resources to assist her moving forward. She has jumped in with blogging, chats, and enjoys the webinars, podcasts, and forums as well. She is extremely thankful to have found the encouragement and support and positive atmosphere of caregiving.com.
