I first heard Theo Androus back in 2003. The Catholic Herald shares a little about Theo:
On a Wednesday evening in 1999, the slightly built Androus took a shot at goal in a coed soccer game in Alexandria, but never saw the 6-foot 3-inch, 240-lb goalie who crashed into him. The impact shattered two bones beneath Androus’ knee into six pieces, causing "unbelievable pain," he recalled. He was taken to INOVA Alexandria Hospital where surgeons stabilized the fracture, inserting a titanium rod through the center of his tibia. Androus spent a month in bed and three months in a wheelchair recovering from the injury.
Androus, who wore leg braces as a child to correct a congenital condition and survived a head-on car crash on the George Washington Parkway in 1989, said he had to set a goal for himself in order to get well. His goal was running the 2000 Marine Corps Marathon.
"Life is about making choices," Androus told the assembly. As an Ireton student, he didn’t see the point of studying geometry or trigonometry and remembers begging math teacher Richard Bulcavage for a C, but publicly thanked him last week for giving him a D, the grade he deserved. Androus said he regretted never having had the chance to thank the late Coach James McGrath for his influence. "You have people here who care so much about you," Androus said."

Lon was joined by Jennifer Steiner on December 23, 2014 to talk about how InnerChange Residential Therapy has successfully grown into six programs. Jennifer is the new CEO of InnterChange and excited about the future of this growing corporation. Part of the secret was each acquisition was deliberate and chosen for their compatibility with the vision of InnerChange, and had excellent reputations for quality relational work with students and families. Lake House Academy-NC is the latest acquisition, coming after a several year management contract they had been in with InnerChange. Lake House Academy works with girls ages 10-14, adds pre-teen girls to the groups served. InnerChange in the past has predominately worked with all girl programs, except for Oakley School-UT which is coed. However, according to Steiner, InnerChange does not limit itself to the populations they serve and hold open the possibility of expanding through additional coed schools or even all male programs. Other InnerChange Schools are: Sunrise Residential Treatment Center-UT, Fulshear Treatment to Transition-TX, Chrysalis-MT and New Haven Residential Treatment Center-UT.

In its 12th year as a coed therapeutic boarding school for teens ages 12-17, owner Ben Trane in this interview talks about the school’s successes and evolution. He explains he feels that a student body size of 125 is about the right size for struggling teens who need help but not intensive hospital therapy and intends to stay at that size.
He further explains that Midwewst Academy had never been a member of the controversial World Wide Association of Speciality Schools and Programs (WWASSP) but is concerned that critics have associated the school with WWASSP because they once had been part of Premier Education which most WWASSP schools had used. He then explains there are significant differences between Midwest Academy and WWASSP schools in that Midwest Academy never used WWASSP stype finders fes marketing techniques and having more sophisticated academics than the WWASSP schools had used.

Recovery Radio Fresno with Louis Angel presents Herb Winnett with Turning Points Quest house.
Herb writes "I am a Certified Addiction Specialist and have been working in the field for 23 years. I started out in the field at CAP, where I stayed for over 8 years and was the Senior Counselor in charge of the short term residential program. I then left to work for Turning Point Substance Abuse Treatment Unit, which was a 50 bed facility where men with parole violations could go in lieu of returning to prison. I stayed there for 3 years until the program closed due to state funding cuts. I was then placed at Turning Points Transitional Living Center (TLC) as Case Manager for their 30 bed coed Sober Living- Out Patient facility. I stayed there for 6 years and was then given an opportunity to become a Program Director at Turning Points Quest House. That was in 2008 and I'm still currently employed there. The Quest House is a 30 bed coed, structured, residential treatment facility for Substance Abuse and other co-occurring disorders. I like to think of the Quest House as a true recovery home with social model and therapeutic community aspects. It has a homey, family type atmosphere where everyone works together for the common goal of changing negative lifestyles into positive lifestyles. Our groups consist of drug education, relapse prevention, parenting, life skills, health education, self help support groups, anger management, women’s issues, men’s issues, process groups, breaking barriers, gardening and dog fostering. The Quest House and Turning Point are strong supporters of Sober Stock annually. The residents from the Quest House volunteer to help out during the entire event. The Quest House is always in charge of security and helping others set up for Sober Stock. Their address is 2731 W. Olive Fresno CA. 93728, or 559-233-5099
