U.S. Term Limits - Time for Citizen Legislators, Not Career Politicians

    in Politics

It is Time for U.S. Term LImits - Citizen Legislators NOT Career Politicians!

Guest: Nick Tomboulides, Executive Director of U.S. Term Limits since 2013, overseeing its national grassroots activism efforts in support of a constitutional amendment to term limit the U.S. Congress. Nick also serves as Editor of the Term Limits National Blog at TermLimits.Org.

U.S. Term Limits has been fighting for term limits at all levels of government since 1992. U.S. Term Limits played a key role in enacting term limits by ballot initiative on 15 state legislatures and 23 congressional delegations, the latter being thrown out by a 1995 Supreme Court decision. Today, USTL’s main focus is on enacting a constitutional amendment to term limit the entire U.S. Congress to no more than three House terms and two Senate terms.

    Thomas Jefferson wanted Term Limits

"General Washington set the example of voluntary retirement after eight years. I shall follow it, and a few more precedents will oppose the obstacle of habit to anyone after a while who shall endeavor to extend his term. Perhaps it may beget a disposition to establish it by an amendment of the Constitution." --Thomas Jefferson to J. Taylor, 1805.
"I apprehend that the total abandonment of the principle of rotation in the offices of President and Senator will end in abuse." --Thomas Jefferson to E. Rutledge, 1788.
"If the principle of rotation be a sound one, as I conscientiously believe it to be with respect to this office, no pretext should ever be permitted to dispense with it, because there never will be a time when real difficulties will not exist and furnish a plausible pretext for dispensation." --Thomas Jefferson to H. Guest, 1809.

Darryel's Daily Dialogue: Is Gay the New Black?

    in Education

This week on Darryel's Daily Dialogue, we will be discussing the struggles of the Gay civil rights, compared to the struggles of African Americans(Blacks) civil rights. It has been widely debated on whether or not the struggles are the same:

Are they the same because both groups are/were discriminated against?

Are they the same because both are/were fighting for equality?

Are they the same because both are/were protesting for thier rights, due to being oppressed?

Let's talk about it this week on Darryel's Daily Dialogue....."where positive words manifest positive action."

    OK. My Husband's Not Gay

    in Family

The Atlantic magazine captures thr reaction to last week's show on TLC, "The brilliance of the television special My Husband's Not Gay begins with its name. Those four short words are stated from a woman's perspective, giving the impression of a wifely gatekeeper controlling a conflicted man's sexuality. Yet, we also know intuitively that this woman's identity is less important than her husband's—she's defining herself in terms of his sexuality. And it prompts the inescapable, sinking feeling that the lady doth protest too much: If she has to explain that her husband's not gay, she's already admitted that his attraction to her is less than self-evident."

GAY IS THE NEW BLACK [Setting The Tone Radio LIVE]

    in LGBT

    This Sunday's Topic

This episode we will delve into a statement that it seems no one wants to really address head on: is gay the new black? Proponents of this statement feel like men and women of the LGBT community are ostracized and oppressed much like blacks were during America's Civil Rights movement. Others do not interpret the statement this way; instead, they are saying that homosexuality (bisexuality, etc.) are just cool these days. In either case, do you agree? Are gays mistreated in America much like blacks were in most of the 20th century, or this statement completely preposterous? Talk to us, STToners!

GAY: Clarifying the myths and misconceptions.

    in Lifestyle

I have come across so many people who place all gays in the same box. They assume that because a man is gay that ALL men are his type. They assume that gay men really want to be women. They assume that gay men are soft, feminine, and lack testosterone. Where did those misconceptions come from and what needs to be done to change them? On tonight we are going to discuss and clarify those assumptions, as well as shed new light on the gay 'experience' (for lack of a better word).

The limits of reporting on gay rumors of pro athletes

    in LGBT

Rumors have been rife for years about Troy Aikman being gay, which he has long denied, most recently this month. And when Aaron Rodgers had a falling out with his longtime roommate, the speculation was that they were gay lovers, which Rodgers denied. The ex-roommate made news again when he mocked the Green Bay Packers losing in the playoffs. Were his remarks fair game for the media or was it nothing more than gossip. The fine line in reporting gay rumors of athletes.

How gay is Super Bowl XLIX between the Patriots and Seahawks

    in LGBT

Almost a year after Michael Sam came out as gay, the topics of gays in the NFL is all but absent at this year's Super Bowl between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots. We examine why this is. Cyd Zeigler, who is using Outsports' first Super Bowl credential, is down in Phoenix for a live report.

Also, we examine the gayest logos in NFL history. Our story that ranked the top 3 has gone viral and opened a debate about how far gays can go to laugh at themselves.
