I am having a Very unique converstation with Dr. Charlene Brannon about a Very unique subject, the "aging odor". Dr. Brannon has found a solution for a not so pleasant challenge as we age.
Mirai Clinical is introducing recent Japanese personal hygiene advances to the American market. It is common knowledge that an unpleasant odor is frequently noticed in nursing homes. This odor, sometimes referred to as "aging odor" or “old people smell”, has been incorrectly attributed to improper facilities cleaning, or incontinence and other ailments of the patients. The problem is particularly irksome in Japan, which has a culture of cleanliness as well as disproportionately ageing population.
The researchers discovered that as skin matures, its natural antioxidant protection decreases, lipid acid in sebaceous glands gets oxidized more easily, resulting in the production of Nonenal (no-nay-nal).
The minerals and water from our sweat are a fertile environment for bacterial growth, which is the source of traditional body odor noticed when we do not bathe adequately, and in locker rooms. Separately, the lipid acids we secrete "oxidize" with oxygen in the air, and transform into a different compound, which produces it's own odor. The researchers who discovered the phenomenon named the stale smelling compound "Nonenal (no-nay-nal)".
There is no place in scripture that supports the type of conversation that reherses and magnifies challenges above God. Tune in as Pastor Traci delivers a message that will expose the source of clutter that demishes the effectiveness of the Word. Hear testimony of how she faced a medical threat and her husband stood when his lawyer said "Your going to Lose." Victory is not wishful thinking, but you do have to decide You Can DO It!

Fernandina Beach, FL – You don’t tell a person who needs glasses to squint harder in order to see, but according to Michelle Rampone, that’s exactly what we tend to do with kids who suffer from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD.
Michelle Rampone is a licensed clinical social worker and founder of About You Counseling & Coaching, where she specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD, a behavioral disorder that affects an estimated 10 percent of school-age children. Kids with ADHD often have trouble focusing, are hyperactive and act without thinking.
“For these kids, school is very difficult, both academically and socially,” says Rampone. “They’re aware people are judging them. Teachers think they’re lazy or disruptive. They’re defined by being distracted. They try to hold themselves together but they can only do it for so long.”
And Rampone knows firsthand, having suffered with ADHD for most of her life without knowing it. Today, Rampone draws on her own experience with ADHD to help other people in the way she wishes she had been helped.
“I am the first person to say if you don’t live it, breathe it and suffer through it every day, you couldn’t possibly understand what it’s like,” says Rampone. “You can have all the expertise in the world but if you don’t connect with your clients and they don’t feel comfortable and understood, it doesn’t work.”
For parents with children suffering from ADHD, Rampone encourages them to educate themselves about the condition, treatments and effective parenting strategies.
Says Rampone: “I’m proud to work with families and schools to make a child’s life better. Most people can’t do what I do, so I feel like my work is a gift.”
Drug and alcohol misuse is often a sign of depression, a silent cry for help for those who may be overwhelmed by emotional distress. Unfortunately, seeking counseling still carries a social stigma in some cultures and too many people have neglected to address emotional problems in a healthy manner, instead turning to the temporary quick fix of drugs or alcohol. Then, when a person uses poor judgement while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, they are viewed by society as a criminal. Kate Mahoney, Executive Director of PEER Service, is a licenced Cllinical Social Worker with 30 years experience in the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders. She discusses the need for families to take the stigma out of substance abuse and allow loved ones to seek and receive the help they need for emotional distress. She urges society to decriminalize drug and alcohol addiction. When teens act out with excessive drinking or drug use, they are crying out for help but are often met with punishment rather than assistance. Kate, who has done extensive work with youth parents and schools, has been awarded by the Illinois Acoholism and Drug Dependence Association for her presentations on cutting edge clinical issues at national conferences in Atlanta, Philiadelphia, St. Louis, and New Orleans. She discusses signs of emotional distress and ways to help those who need help to seek it out without fear of ridicule or rejection.
