    Design Thinking for Clinical Trials

    in Science

Design Thinking is a human centered approach to innovation that helps uncover the sweet spot of opportunity where the needs of people, the possibilities of technology and the requirements for business success all converge. The application of the Design Thinking methodology (originating out of Stanford’s d.School) as a new approach to looking at solutions can lead to disruptive innovation in clinical trials for drug development. It allows for designing new ways of working, including the needs, challenges and insights about the complex world we work in.

In this discussion, we introduce the basic principals of Design Thinking and an understanding of how the methodology teaches empathy for the end user (the patients). We explore its ability to reframe questions and unleash innovative thinking as well as the "downside" of creative tension. Most importantly, we address how Design Thinking can drive more successful trials.

Hosted by Valerie Bowling, Executive Director of the Conference Forum, guests include:

The NLP View: Why Did the Cancer Disappear?

    in Psychology

According to Cancer Research UK, 1 in 3 of people will develop cancer of some sort in their lifetime. The cause of most diseases including cancer remains unknown. Treatment is therefore of the symptoms of diseases rather than the causes of the disease itself. Unsurprising, 75% of all visits to the doctor involve symptoms of illness which are based on excessive or chronic stress. Whilst medication helps in the short term, current scientific research indicates that unless chronic stress is addressed in a timely manner, further diseases are inevitably created. Ignoring the psychosocial and emotional aspects that are impacted on the individuals life produce an ever revolving cycle of mental instability that impacts on the person's ability to function within the normal realms of well-being. Therefore the need to take responsibility for our health and well-being has never been so important. In this segment of The NLP View Radio Show host, Donna Blinston, RGN talks to Marion Dias, about her best-selling book Why Did the Cancer Disappear: Become Free From Cancer & Promote Health.

    Embracing Envy!!!

Envy is a universal emotion no one seems to have. That is, while every language has a word for it, few are willing to talk about their own envy or even acknowledge it to themselves. Josh Gressel wrote a book, Embracing Envy:  Finding the Spiritual Treasure in Our Most Shameful Emotion, to explore why this is so and what we might learn about ourselves from exploring our envy more openly.  The basic premise of the book is that the emotion would not exist unless there is some positive reason for it.  The book explains what some of those reasons might be.

Josh Gressel, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist and certified Imago couples therapist in private practice in the San Francisco Bay area.  He is a student of Jewish mysticism and seeks to integrate spiritual and psychological truths in his work with clients.  His clinical work focuses on 1) working with religious adults on their psychological issues so they are freed up to worship God more freely; 2) working with couple’s from a spiritual perspective,

Communication and Listening Skills with Dr. E.D. Brown

    in Self Help

Clinical Psychologist Dr. E. Douglas Brown will be our guest speaker on this rebroadcast show. He says, "The art of speaking and listening demands more than a tongue, lips and ears. Before a toddler can utter a word, a toddler can recognize the sound of a word and associates it with pleasant or unpleasant experiences. Parents should teach their children that communicating and listening is easy, fun, and exciting." Many children don’t communicate what they are truly feeling unless they feel comfortable in doing so. If the environment is not supporting their spirit, if folks are berating them, abusing them, ignoring them, or just not being loving enough, they are not going to feel like opening up. That makes them more vulnerable to more negative energies.
