I SAMUEL 30: 1-25 DAVID AVENGES ZIKLAG, ZIKLAG DESTROYED BY FIRE.
vs. 1. And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the South, and Ziklag, and burned it with fire;
vs. 2. And had taken the women captive that were therein: they slew not any, either great or small, but carried them away.
vs. 3. So David and his men came to the city, and behold it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives.
vs. 4. Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice, and wept, until they had more power to weep.
vs. 5. And David's two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
vs. 6. And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his GOD.
vs. 7. And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech's son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David.
vs. 8. And David enquired at the LORD, saying, shall I pursue after this troop ? Shall I overtake them ?
And he answered him pursue: for thou shall surely overtake them, and without fail recover all. vs. 9. So david went, he and the 600 men that were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those that were left behind stayed.
HEBREWS 11: 7-16
vs. 7. By Faith Noah, being warned of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an arc to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by Faith.
vs. 8. By Faith Abraham when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed and he went out, not knowing where he went.
vs. 9. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac andJacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
vs. 10. For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God
vs. 11. through faith also sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past the age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.
vs. 12. Therefore spraang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.
vs. 13. these all died in faith not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embranced them, andconfessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
vs. 14. for they that say such things declare plainly that they seek for a country.
vs. 15. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had an opportunity to have returned.
vs. 16 But now they desire a better country, that is an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called .....
The apostle Paul tells the church in Ephesus to put on the whole armor of God so that they would be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. One part of the armor is the belt of truth. In Ephesians 6: 14, Paul says:
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth.
The term “gird up your loins” used in Paul’s day, meant to pull up one’s lower garments from the feet, and tie them around the waist in order to free the legs and prepare for battle. Paul tells us to prepare for battle (gird up our loins) with truth.
You cannot prepare for battle without living in truth, speaking truth, believing in the truth. What you are preparing to fight for must be based on the truth of God’s word. Many believers are falling prey to the enemy because, while they may have the rest of the armor on, they are not living in the truth of God's word.
Our spiritual warfare revolves around God's truth verses the devil's lies. How can we make sure that our loins are girded about with truth?
