Welcome to Dimensions of Quantum hosting Your Community Science Class. This is a new night as we expand the platform of Your Community Science Class beyond our 30-minute platform to a full two-hours!
On our upcoming program we are continuing to examine the destructive and invasive 'citrus greening' also known as HLB that is decimating the Florida orange industry.
We will briefly review our afternoon presentation and then take a more in-depth look at HLB, the causes and some of the solutions proposed by the industry.
We will also examine some permaculture solutions that have been suggested and explore their efficacy for future generations of the citrus industry and even the back yard citrus movement
Welcome to Your Community Science Class! On today's broadcast we explore the effects of Citrus Greening Disease. As we consider the global blights across nature, we are looking at huanlongbing, which has the potential to devastate citrus trees globally. Part 2 will air at 8pm eastern, hosted by Dimensions of Quantum where we will look at the solutions being proposed for this blight, which includes genetically modifiying all orange trees. There already has, over the past several years, been a large increase in pesticide usage on oranges. This begs the question, are oranges currently safe to consume? Join us as we explore this and many other questions regarding yet another devastating disease affecting the monoculture industry.

America organic citrus is truly the best in the world. Unfortunately, there may be an issue with this year’s crop due to a disease citrus farmers are battling called citrus greening. It is otherwise known in the industry as HLB, which is short for Huanglongbing or yellow dragon disease. It is one of the more serious citrus diseases devastating American citrus crops significantly.
In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to Matt McLean, CEO & Founder, Uncle Matt’s Organic, Inc. Matt ventured into the organic juice business in 1999 with a passion for healthy living as well as a long family history of growing citrus in Florida. Matt’s goal was, and still is, to produce the highest quality juice, using only premium 100% organically-grown fruit that is free from synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.
What is causing this disease and how are organic citrus farmers battling this disease? How will this disease impact the price of juice and fresh produce? Stay tuned!

Rick asks why California bans Florida citrus at its border, but Barack Obama won’t ban travelers from Ebola-infected West African countries?
German computer security expert Christian Grothoff tells Rick about German reaction to the NSA’s surveillance of world communications.
Western Maryland farmer Ann Corcoran tells Rick how she organized to stop the U.S. State Department from dumping Somalian refugees in her community.
American organic citrus farmers produce the best quality organic oranges, grapefruits, lemons and limes in the world, but oddly enough we still continue to import citrus. Thanks to the off peak as well as peak season imports, American citrus farmers are now facing a problem with the Asian citrus psyllid (Diaphorina citri Kuwayama). It has become the most important insect pest of Florida citrus due to the presence of citrus greening disease spread by the psyllid. In other regions of the world where citrus is grown and greening disease is present, use of insecticides to control the psyllid vector has been a major component of greening management strategies. Who exactly is monitoring these chemicals? How can we trust the producers that are in far-away lands where there is no regulation? Why do we continue to import citrus when we have the best in the world right at our fingertips? Perhaps it is because most people have not taken the time to connect directly with the farmers who grow our food and understand what great lengths they go to in order to produce fine quality organic foods. In America, organic citrus farmers have opted to go back to basics in order to save their trees as they continue to produce the best tasting citrus.
In 1999, Matt McLean ventured into the organic juice business with a passion for healthy living as well as a long family history of growing citrus in Florida. Matt’s goal was, and still is, to produce the highest quality juice, using only premium 100% organically-grown fruit that is free from synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. His company, Uncle Matt’s Organics is the leading producer of premium certified organic citrus from Florida.
Tune in to this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, as host, June Stoyer is joined by special guest, Matt McLean to talk about what organic citrus farmers are doing to protect their farms.
Because Jamie Oliver’s food programs originated in England, the question is, are kids there now choosing to eat healthier foods? If not, what is turning kids on to better-for- you meals there? Or, are they eating them at all? What about the school lunch programs – have they improved? Or, are moms in the United Kingdom dealing with the same struggles of how to feed kids as we do in the United States? Our guest, Katharine Tate, known as “The Food Teacher,” is a qualified teacher, nutritional therapist and “mum” who has worked with children in schools located in the UK, New Zealand and Hong Kong. She’ll tell us about food programs that do work, such as educating parents, “Cookery Schools” and inspirational Head Teachers. Judging from her recipes and family health tips, Katharine is innovative while focusing on nutrition, well-being and fresh and flavor-filled recipes that appeal to the whole family. These include: Citrus Mango Coco Bites (dairy free), Cinnamon Apple & Vanilla Cashew Cream (Dairy Free), Cauliflower Rice, gluten free/no added sugar chocolate brownies, Tomato & Lentil Soup (winter is coming), Parsnip Hummus… just a few of her treasure chest of delicious healthy ones kids will eat!
Come into our Family Food Experts Kitchen with Katharine, Carolina and me as we take you on a trip to England for some great food ideas for kids! Thursday, 1pm ET, on W4WN.com and W4CY.com.

This week on One Cell One Light Radio, Dr. Hildy will welcome returning favorites Veronica Hendricks and Rick Dubov in the first hour of the show to discuss something near and dear to Dr. Hildy’s heart - Hildegarde Staninger Foundation 501(c)(3)
The Hildegarde Staninger Foundation is a non-profit charitable foundation that was created by Dr. Hildy that sponsors research for the determination and isolation of bioactive ingredients in botanicals and how they will enhance the regeneration of the human body and other life forms.
Other related research projects for future funding are the direct relationship of environmental stress factors upon humanity and their role in systemic target organ toxicity. Some other active research areas sponsored include diseases that are associated with environmental exposures, the medicinal benefits of botanicals from antiquity, the therapeutic benefits of edible flowers of bio-ethnic origins, and the use of natural bio-ethnic botanicals from antiquity and spices in their applications to reducing risk of gene mutations from exposure to environmental toxins.
In the second hour of the show, the discussion will turn to the “Ten Plagues” that are affecting the United States at the moment. Much like in ancient Egyptian times, there are a number of various disasters that are occurring all over the United States.
