People are drawn to Alexis from the moment they see her on stage. She draws you in with her uniquely haunting voice and long mermaid’s tresses, then holds you mesmerized with the wit and power of her words. You find yourself singing along, even if you are hearing her for the very first time.
In June 2011, Alexis opened for Nashville singer-songwriter, Rick Ferrell at Shawnee State University. Ferrell, who has written hit songs for Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Martina McBride, has been enormously complimentary of this young woman’s talent and potential.
She has been interviewed twice for Marshall University’s “Up Late Show,” as well as “Up Close and Acoustic” with Charlie Silvestri on Pottstown, PA radio. She played the Huntington Music Festival in August 2011, and made her radio debut in 2010 on Huntington Radio 106.3, to the delight of her growing fan-base, and continues to be one of their frequently played artists.
Alexis P. Suter has one of the most powerful and booming voices you ever want to hear. She is a woman with a rare baritone voice that is dripping with sensuality, pain, and fun! Alexis sings the blues and has been known to perform with such legends as Dan Akyroid and B.B. King. She has roots in gospel and house music which all lends to her unique style of blues. Celebrating the release of her new CD, Alexis joins us for Brunch In The Basement With JaVonne.
Alexis De Veaux’s work is defined by two critical concerns: making the racial and sexual experiences of black female characters central, and disrupting boundaries between forms. She is the author of two award-winning biographies: Don’t Explain: A Song of Billie Holiday andWarrior Poet: A Biography of Audre Lorde. A celebrated writer of poetry, children’s literature, plays, essays and journalism, De Veaux is also an activist recognized for her lifelong contributions to a number of women’s and literary organizations, and a recently retired professor of women's studies at University of Buffalo. With her new work, Yabo, Alexis has returned to her first love: writing fiction.

She recorded her first song in Columbia, South Carolina, where she also earned her diploma at Richland Northeast High School's Palmetto Center for the Arts. Shortly after, she moved to New York City, and later, Charm City. It was in Baltimore where she met her lead producer, Morece, at an internship doing theatre with inner city youths.
An impromptu performance with Baltimore wordsmiths, David Ross and Femi Lawal of 5th L cleared a way to work with artists in the Baltimore music scene and beyond.
A month later, she was performing with the group in New York. A year later she was asked to come on as the vocalist for live performances with the Out of Water eXperience, Lawal's solo adventure that fuses alternative rock and hip hop.
Using this unique opportunity, Alexis has honed her talents on stage and at local venues.
She is now on the verge of releasing her first solo album.
An Army Brat, Alexis-Joyce is truly a lover of music- in all it's many forms. Her musical influences range from Donny Hathaway, Natalie Cole, and Stevie Wonder, to Aerosmith, Santana, The Eagles, and country artist such as Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Kieth Urban, and Miranda Lambert. She spent months dancing to a Shania Twain cassette tape- given to her by an aunt as a girl.
"There's no such thing as 'Black music' or 'White music," says Alexis Joyce. "I strive to create music- and that can cross racial and cultural barriers. Music isn't stifled or limited by anyone's genre restrictions."
She joins Ellen Gee on this episode of The Evolution of Perspective.
