Philosopher Dr. Diana Hsieh interviewed Professor Robert Garmong about "Censorship in China" in this episode of Philosophy in Action Radio. How does censorship work in China? What can ordinary people access or not? What is the Chinese government most concerned to conceal? What are the consequences of speaking out? What do ordinary people think of the censorship? Robert Garmong, an American living and working in China, will answer these questions and more. Robert Garmong is Lecturer of Business at the Surrey International Institute of Dongbei University of Finance and Economics in Dalian, China. He studied economics and political science at the University of Chicago, and has a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Texas (Austin). His blog is "Professor in Dalian." According to the Mail Online:
The Chinese government has revealed for the first time that it has nuclear submarines capable of attacking cities throughout the United States.
Last week, state-run Chinese news agencies - such as China Central TV, the People’s Daily, the Global Times, the PLA Daily, the China Youth Daily and the Guangmin Daily - ran identical reports about the 'awesomeness' of the People's Liberation Army's submarine force.
'This is the first time in 42 years since the establishment of our navy’s strategic submarine force that we reveal on such a large scale the secrets of our first-generation underwater nuclear force,' the Global Times said in a lengthy article titled 'China for the First Time Possesses Effective Underwater Nuclear Deterrence against the United States.'
When I was two years old, I told my mother that I wanted to go home, “home” meaning back to the Divine. I have always been very intuitive and able to “see through” people, sensing their deepest desires, dreams, and fears. However, I resisted my mother’s attempts to get me into her spiritual practices, and in my teens I rebelled against what I considered to be her “airy-fairy bullshit.” At 15 my mother sent me to learn yoga to calm me down, and at my first Holotropic Breathwork session at 19, I learned to meditate. After seeing the obvious benefits, I decided to start my own practice. When I was 22, I cracked open a yoga book called The Five Tibetans, which my mother had given to me at 17 but had sat on my bookshelf, untouched, for years. Thus began my lifelong practice of the Five Tibetans, which I believe to be a source of youthfulness. Also at that time I began to practice yoga and open eye meditation with a group of Buddhist monks at the Kanzeonji Non-Sectarian Buddhist Temple in Mt. Washington, California. I once meditated for 7.5 hours with my monk friends. I was invited to become a member of their temple, which is a huge honor only bestowed upon those who practice with intense regularity and sincere integrity. If you hear me talk about my Osho, I am referring to the Master of the Kanzeonji Temple. He still tries to get me to learn how to stand on my head, which one day, I will.
In 2000 I traveled to Tibet and began my studies to become a Spiritual Counselor under the great OC Smith, founder of The City of Angels Church of Religious Science. In 2002 I obtained my Professional Practitioner license.
