Call (347) 934-0493 at 11 PM EDT (and remember to set those coo coo clocks back an hour Saturday night!) to listen to the whole 45 minutes "almost live"! (You can catch it in the archives, but will miss the fun!
Today's show continues our look at the introductory theatre textbook "The Art of Theatre: Then and Now." This book presents, in my opinion, a decidedly left-wing, propagandistic view of theatre and makes some rather specious and negative assumptions about American culture. Listen in and let me know if you agree--or even disagree (dissent is the highest form of patriotism unless you're a conservative)--by calling me or emailing at firstname.lastname@example.org. I'll also talk about a piece of performance art I saw on a college campus and its obligatory smear on Republicans.
This evening, Jameeka Holloway-Burrell, Founder Of Black Ops Theatre, will be talking about the play The Shipment which focuses on Hollywood's portrayal of African Americans and about her new theatre company which is at the forefront of the new renaissance that is taking place around the country.
Wiithin the conversation, we will also be talking about the health of African American Theatre, and what she sees as new trends within the entertainment field....We will also be joined by her uncle, Bruce Bridges, who used to own the Know Bookstore. Part of that discussion will center on what happened to his historical venue, and what the health is of African American owned bookstores, and are they still needed in the 21st Century...
Be sure to join us for this lively discussion.......

A good deal of the commentary about the recent Republican candidate debate was couched in theatrical terms (many not so kind). It behooves us to look at how we define "theatre" and to apply that definition to what was going on in Cleveland. I'll also give you an update on the New York New Works Festival, which will feature one of my plays on August 17 in Manhattan. Please feel free to call into the show or to write to me at email@example.com to have your voice heard!

Group 4 will be discussing:
1. The early beginnings of the theatre movement in Jamaica and what it represented
2. The deliberate attempt to exclude certain classes of persons both from the stage and from the audience of theatres and how this eventually got rectified
3. The proliferation of Jamaican theatre houses and films and the kinds of local criticisms and controversies about Jamaican theatre in the late 20th century and beyond

Nicholas Snow welcomes critically acclaimed Writer/Director Billy Clift (of Baby Jane? fame) to discuss not only his career, but his latest film, Hush Up Sweet Charlotte, an homage to the 1964 Hush…Hush Sweet Charlotte film starring the iconic actresses Bette Davis and Olivia de Havilland. The film tells of an aging, reclusive Southern belle with a horrifying hidden family secret. It tracks her descent into madness (with the help of a lost relative) as she fights to save her family’s historic plantation.
In Clift’s film, the leads are parody performances by gender-illusionist superstars Matthew Martin and Varla Jean Merman. The feature role of housekeeper Velma, originally performed by Agnes Moorhead, is played by Mink Stole, made famous by cult film director, John Waters. Other cast members include accomplished comedian/actor Jason Stuart, star of stage and screen David Millbern, rising star Jesse Pepe, Raja Gemini of RuPaul’s Drag Race, plus San Francisco drag icons Katya Smirnoff Skyy, Ethel Merman, Honey Mahogony, Heklina and more.
