Children handle pet death rather easily. It is the adult's reactions and actions that can leave a scar of misunderstanding. Most kids feel as strongly over the loss of the pet as adults do, but look to the adults in their lives to decide how to respond to the loss.
Many adults feel it is best to protect children from the upsetting truth of what has happened to their pet and so they lie! They pretend the pet "ran away" or perhaps "moved to the country." Without telling children the truth, it will cause them more pain and the potential for guilty feelings for not taking better care of their pet.
Were you aware that how a child hears about the first death in his life, usually a pet or grandparent, can color his future perspecive on death? Please see this great kids book; http://www.amazon.com/Miss-You-Pets-Heaven-Parent-ebook/dp/B00J0D707Y/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1416880152&sr=1-1&keywords=I+miss+you%3A+all+pets+go+to+heaven You will be glad you did.
Join us today by calling in at 917-889-8810 and sharing your story of how you were told as a child that your beloved pet had died. We are a community of caring pet parents who want to share with you.
In this episode I share some of the questions I get around the world about starting a family business. I address common questions such as: What if I don't have money? What are my options for starting a family business? Won't working together destroy us? What about entrepreneurship and children? How do you balance it all?

With cold temperatures blanketing much of the United States and over 600,000 individuals facing homelessness, the pressure turns to finding solutions to this major issue impacting almost every community across the country. On this edition of Thirty Below I sit down with Angel Foster, founding member and current Board member of the Isabella County Restoration House. ICRH provides immediate, temporary housing to homeless individuals of all social and cultural identities in Isabella County and advocates for access to services needed by patrons to address their individual needs. Angel and I discuss the formation of the ICRH, common misconception about the homeless population, and how other advocates can start similar organizations in their community.
