PawedCast Episode 29: Sporting Kansas City Review / Chicago Fire Preview

    in Soccer

So that's what three points feel like. It's been awhile.

Brek Shea returned and Adrian Winter and Bryan Rochez both opened their MLS accounts as the Lions claimed all the points against former OCSC star Dom Dwyer and his Sporting Kansas City teammates at the Citrus Bowl Sunday. Andrew Harrison joins host Michael Citro to discuss the game's talking points and bask in the glow of victory.

Then Hot Time in the Old Town Editor-in-Chief Sean Spence joins us to look ahead to Chicago on Saturday and which players may or may not play at Toyota Park for the Fire. Sean gave us the lowdown on the situation in Chicago and what we can expect on Saturday, plus his score prediction.

And we give our key match-ups for the weekend and our not-to-be-wagered-on predictions for the game against the Fire.

    Here's how it happened:

0:25- Victory! Andrew and Michael dissect a very satisfying 3-1 home win on Sunday and spotlight the performances by Adrian Winter, Bryan Rochez, Brek Shea, Cristian Higuita, Servando Carrasco and others. Plus our Man of the Match selections.

21:20- Sean Spence jumps on and he's got much to say about the state of the Chicago Fire. He previews Chicago's speedy forwards and midfielders and which ones might sit out the match Saturday. Plus he gives us his take on the NWSL as Orlando City seems on the brink of adding a women's team.

47:36- Our key match-ups and prediction time!

PawedCast Episode 27: Chicago Fire Review / New England Revolution Preview

    in Soccer

Saturday night was fun and frustrating. The Lions finally looked themselves after several lackluster performances. However, most of their chances went wanting.

Oh, and there was the weather. A two hour wait to get the game started was followed by 18 minutes of soccer and then another hour delay. Fans who stayed were soaked but treated to a good performance by Orlando.

Seth from The Bent Musket joins us to talk about what we can expect from the Revs in an important match-up for the Lions' playoff hopes.

We'd like to crank up a new segment called "Ask TML," which is sort of an audio version of a Reddit AMA. To get your questions in, hit us up on Twitter with the #AskTML hashtag or email us with "Ask TML" in the subject line.

Here's how the show went down:

0:26- Allen, Andrew and I discuss the 1-1 draw vs. Chicago Fire, the Cyle Larin/Own goal, the weather and what kind of lineup we might see this Saturday.

24:27- Seth hops aboard and clues us in on what's been going on with the Revolution, why they're playing better of late, and what we can expect from them on Saturday.

39:08- We give our key match-ups for this Saturday and predict the final score.

PawedCast Episode 30: Chicago Fire Review / New York Red Bulls Preview

    in Soccer

We're all pretty stoked about the Lions getting back-to-back wins. You know what I'm saying? Like, winning is better than losing!

We break down the 1-0 victory over Chicago Fire at Toyota Park, giving you our overall thoughts on the match, discuss what Brek Shea's return has meant to the club, and hand out our selections for Man of the Match.

The defense seems to be starting to gel now that David Mateos has played a few matches in purple and that's great to see. And Bryan Rochez has had a couple of super-sub performances off the bench and that could lead to a start this Friday.

Speaking of Friday, we are joined by Jason Iapicco from Once a Metro to preview this weekend's game at Red Bull Arena. Jason gives us the RBNY perspective and it's unanimous -- we all want Orlando City to finish ahead of New York City FC.

    Here's how the magic happened:

0:26- We're thrilled with more points, excited to have Brek Shea back, and intrigued to see what Adrian Heath does with his lineup on Friday.

15:40- Jason jumps aboard to let us know what's changed with the Red Bulls since the last meeting and discusses what it takes to be successful in MLS.

38:02- Prognostication time! Who will start? What's the key to the match? Who will win? We take our best shot at getting it right for a change, and -- surprise! -- we're split on this.

PawedCast Episode 23: Chicago Fire & NYCFC Review / Columbus Preview

    in Soccer

Can we just be done with July? The seventh month of 2015 was unkind to Orlando City fans, as well as our Lions,to the tune of no wins. Nada. Not even one.

Nevertheless, Michael Citro is joined by fellow Mane Landers Brent Petkus and Kye Foley to break down the two most recent disappointing results - a 3-1 away loss in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals against the Chicago Fire, and a 5-3 barnburner at Yankee Stadium against New York City FC. At least we got to see City's first MLS hat trick in the latter, courtesy of rookie striker Cyle Larin.

Our old frienemy Pat Murphy from Massive Report stops in and updates us on Saturday night's opponents, the Columbus Crew, who we are seeing for the fourth (!) time during the 2015 season. Pat tells us what makes Kei Kamara so special and what we might expect on Saturday.

Then we discuss the game's key match-ups and give our always LOL-worthy match predictions.

    Here's how it all unfolded:

0:26- Michael, Brent and Kyle are as sick of losses as you are but at least we're able to put them into perspective. Hey, Cyle Larin did good!

24:37- Pat jumps on board and gives us the latest from the Crew side. Kamara, Clark and what it's like playing someone this often.

43:06- Key match-ups for Saturday and final score predictions!

PawedCast Episode 15: Columbus Crew Review / Chicago Fire Preview

    in Soccer

We're here to sing the praises of Pedro Ribeiro. Actually, we're here to break down the 2-2 draw against Columbus Crew, as well as look ahead to Saturday's match-up with the Chicago Fire. Joining us to talk about the Fire and what they bring to the table is Sean Spence, the editor-in-chief of Hot Time in Old Town, our SB Nation sister blog that covers Chicago on a daily basis.

We also get into the big stadium news that Orlando City dropped on Friday about privately funding a bigger downtown soccer-specific stadium than was originally planned. They say "bigger is better" and it sure will be when the new home of the Lions is unveiled some time next summer.

And would you believe that we had this entire conversation without once saying anything bad about our opponents' fans? Well, we did.

Here's how this episode of the PawedCast went down (and you can subscribe to us on iTunes and/or Stitcher):

0:26- Me, Austin David and Andrew Harrison discuss the change of direction for the downtown stadium and we break down the crew and look ahead to potential lineup changes at Chicago. Also, Pedro Ribeiro is good at kicking soccer balls.

29:29- Sean Spence hops aboard to tell us why we should fear Harry Shipp, David Accam and company. His breakdown of his team will give you all the background info on the Fire that you need.

49:30- It's prediction time, and you know darn well we're going to be wrong.

    That's it for this week.

PawedCast Episode 16: Chicago Fire Review / D.C. United Preview

    in Soccer

Orlando City continues to leave things for late. Just a week after Pedro Ribeiro fired the Lions into a 2-2 draw with Columbus, Cyle Larin's laser started a late spurt to push City past Chicago, 3-2, for the club's first win over an Eastern Conference opponent. We're here to make sense of that crazy win for the boys in purple and we give you our picks for Man of the Match.

We also look ahead to Sunday's third and final (regular season) meeting with D.C. United, a club that's gotten the best of Orlando twice despite maybe not looking like the more likely side to win on either occasion. Can City finally turn their fortunes around against the defending conference regular season champs? It all comes down to finishing.

And we discuss Brek Shea's recent time with the USMNT and whether DaMarcus Beasley can come back and supplant him as Jurgen Klinnsman's left back of choice. In fact, we discuss the great week the U.S. has had at multiple levels of international competition.

Oh, and no PawedCast would be complete without our hilariously wrong predictions.

    Here's how it all happened:

0:26- Introductions and breakdown of an amazing finish for the Lions in the Windy City.

8:57- Our picks for Man of the Match in Chicago

14:45- Is the third time the charm against D.C. United? We discuss what the addition of Fabian Espindola might do for United.

20:48- Brek Shea, the U.S. Men's National Team, and success for the USWNT, U-23 men and U-20 men.

    38:50- Final predictions!
