Chemotherapy given for cancer–or other conditions, such as autoimmune diseases–can, unfortunately, cause nerve damage (neuropathy). Patients may or may not develop neuropathy based on which medications they are taking. Platinum-based chemotherapies in particular will usually cause neuropathy. Patients who undergo hormone or radiation therapy in addition to chemotherapy also have a high chance of developing peripheral neuropathy.

Basketball hall-of-famer Pat Williams has achieved many successes in his life: NBA champion, co-founder of the Orlando Magic, father of 19 children (14 adopted from four foreign countries), 58 marathons completed. He now adds cancer survivor to that list.
Pat Williams’ world changed in January, 2011 when his doctor completed his physical with the words, “There’s something in your blood work we’re not sure about.” Pat was diagnosed with a rare and incurable blood cancer, multiple myeloma.
As one of the millions of people to have experienced cancer, Pat first asked “Why me?” After calling on his faith, his family and his fighting spirit, Pat asked, “Why not me?” Williams’ mantra became "The mission is remission." After rounds of chemotherapy and a stem cell treatment, he succeeded in the fight of his life: the myeloma can no longer be detected in his body.

Margo Rey's music has captured audiences worldwide with unforgettable melodies and connection to life's greatest struggles. Her biggest hit, "Let the Rain" — co-written with the legendary John Oates — remained on the charts for 21 weeks. It then became the theme song for the Brides Against Breast Cancer charitable organization providing more than 2 million dollars in support and services for those facing the disease.
Margo Rey began performing at just 11 years of age. A native of Mexico, she's fluent in English and Spanish, and possesses conversational skills in French and Italian. It's no wonder she's been able to deliver her alternative pop songs in eight languages! Her love of performing flowed over into dancing in New York City Broadway shows and voice-over talent in the animated film "Beverly Hills Chihuahua."
Margo's belief that "education and personal support are just as critical as prompt medical treatment," was solidified during her own battle with breast cancer. She volunteered her time to be the national ambassador for "Brides Against Breast Cancer" while undergoing chemotherapy and planning her own wedding to the famous comedian and actor Ron "Tater Salad" White. Her nationwide visits during the campaign helped raise funds for education, information and outreach services for cancer patients and their families.
Margo Rey's desire to make a difference doesn't stop. She'll join us from home-base in Beverly Hills, following her performance of The National Anthem at the Armed Forces Foundation Gala in Washington DC. Tune in for this rare episode to meet Margo Rey, and hear her amazing story paired with incredible music.
