Michael Green, Executive Director for the Center of Environmental Health
Can you think of anything that matters more to you than your health and the health of those you love? So what's a person to do to get up to speed on what might be making us sick? And what can do about it? Enter Michael Green. About ten years ago, Michael founded the Center for Environmental Health (CEH) to raise public awareness of the corporate use of toxic chemicals and of the many viable, pragmatic solutions to this pervasive threat to public health. Since then he has helped lead national efforts to stop toxic exposures and protect public health. He has also pioneered the groundbreaking legal work that has won landmark victories to protect the public from hazardous consumer products and toxic emissions. So much to share and it seems as though there is never enough time. Please join us! This show made possible due to the generous support of The Fairfax Companies.
Erin Switalski, Executive Director, Women’s Voices for the Earth
All those in favor of a toxic free future, please say “aye.” Ready for this to start your new year off healthy? Women’s Voices for the Earth (WVE) was formed by a group of visionary women leaders in Missoula, Montana in 1995. Seeing that many environmental organizations at the time failed to include women in leadership positions and did not fully recognize the systemic connections between health, class, race, and the environment, WVE sought to create a new environmental organization led by women. Their incredibly important mission? To amplify women’s voices to eliminate the toxic chemicals that harm our health and communities. Imagine that! Plan to join us because our health matters – men, women, and children! This show made possible due to the generous support of The Fairfax Companies.

Parabens are used commonly as a preservative, and they easily penetrate the skin. But did you know that the European Commission on Endocrine Disruption lists parabens as a category 1 substance, shown to be an endocrine disruptor? Parabens have also been detected in breast cancer tumors, suggesting a link between them and cancer. Parabens go by the following names: Methylparaben, butylparaben, propylparaben, isobutylparaben, ethylparaben, polyparaben and isobutylparaben.
The David Suzuki foundation reports that 75 to 90 percent of cosmetics may contain parabens.

Something you may have never heard about is that certain chemicals in our food supply and our environment, such as pesticides, herbicides, and certain petrochemicals from air and water pollution, household cleaners, plastics, cosmetics, etc can react with your hormones and make your body store excess abdominal fat. These harmful chemicals are known as xenoestrogens. Excess exposure to these can cause hormone balance disruptions for both men and women. Tune in Wednesday May-20 at 7:Pm for the Rest of the Story.
