All kids misbehave some times. And some may have temporary behavior problems due to stress. For example, the birth of a sibling, a divorce, or a death in the family may cause a child to act out. Behavior disorders are more serious. They involve a pattern of hostile, aggressive, or disruptive behaviors for more than 6 months. The behavior is also not appropriate for the child's age.
Warning signs can include:
Harming or threatening themselves, other people or pets Damaging or destroying property Lying or stealing Not doing well in school, skipping school Early smoking, drinking or drug use Early sexual activity Frequent tantrums and arguments Consistent hostility towards authority figures Jeff Laforge has been providing mental health services and substance abuse services to children, adolescents, adults and families since 1995. Jeffrey has a Master’s Degree from Florida State as well as a Bachelor's Degree from Wayne State in Detroit, MI. Jeffrey has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including schools, mental health clinics, hospitals, psychiatric units and private practice. Jeffrey has two children and has lived in the Charlotte area since 1999. His practice is located in Indian Trail.

We will learn about the programs available at Different Roads Home, a non-profit in Huntersville, NC. These programs provide personalized supportive services including social and support groups, mentoring, and food assistance, to help HIV positive individuals reach their destination on their own terms.
The mission of Different Roads Home is to assist individuals battling the illness and to advocate, raise awareness, and eliminate stigma associated with the disease.
Mecklenburg Co. has the highest number of HIV/AIDS cases in NC, with 7 new cases of HIV being reported per week! In Charlotte, there are many high quality medical options, but often, their emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs are not met. Different Roads Home is hoping to fill the gaps in psychosocial support and supportive care for HIV individuals. This month, Different Roads Home is launching The Good Road Project, a mentoring program that will partner experienced HIV survivors with recently diagnosed individuals.

Mar 15 -Charlotte View: UNCC's Collegiate Recovery Community Program for Students with Addictions
Charlotte View embraces the opportunity to help Marketing Specialist, Carol Rose, grow the first Collegiate Recovery Community (CRC) Program in the UNC system. During this interview, the program is explained and we listen, first-hand, to the stories of 2 recovering students, Hillary Belk and Chelsea Schmidt.
The CRC supports students in college who are in recovery from addiction (of all kinds) The CRC offers weekly 12 Step Meetings (both Alcoholic Anonymous AA and Narcotic Anonymous NA), peer support, community service, seminars on recovery issues and "Game Night" on Wednesdays 6-8pm in the new CRC room room 121 , designed and furnished by Charlotte IKEA.
Statistics show that recovering students who attend a university with a CRC have 66% chance of maintaining their sobriety in the first 3 years of school and 86% of maintaining their sobriety within 4-6 years of attending school. CRC allows students to have a "typical" college experience.
