The Other Side is an initiative to empower women and girls cross-culturally through theatre and music.
Theatre is not only an experience for expression and performance, but a powerful tool for social change in participating communities.
Melanie Closs and Kerri Lindstrom are dedicated to promoting awareness, connection, and empowerment through theatre and music. They focus their efforts on cultural competency and awareness working with diverse communities focused on young women. Participants create their own plays and songs using theatre of the oppressed and other devised theatre techniques. The process and final products of these dramatic pieces then become a platform to make social change in their communities. As part of the creative process, each group undergos a cross-cultural exchange of ideas, thereby creating an intercultural dialog as part of the ongoing curriculum and discussion in each locale.
