Benefits of using Yarrow & Chamomile plants in skin care!

    in Self Help

Rosie is going to discuss the many benefits  of the Yarrow and Chamomile plant in health and beauty care.   Yarrow has many names, including Nosebleed, Milfoil, Thousand-leaf, Soldier’s Woundwort, Devil’s Nettle, Devil’s Plaything, Bad Man’s Plaything and Yarroway. Don’t let the tough names scare you, though– yarrow is a gentle herb.

Yarrow is a perfect ingredient for cleansers especially Yarrow hydrosol which is a very gentle skin toner, especially those aimed at oily skin. It’s great for tonic, especially due to its anti-inflammatory properties. It’s even used in cosmetics as a soothing agent.

Chamomile is an age-old medicinal herb known in ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome. Chamomile's popularity grew throughout the Middle Ages when people turned to it as a remedy for numerous medical complaints including asthma, colic, fevers, inflammations, nausea, nervous complaints, children's ailments, skin diseases and cancer. As a popular remedy, it may be thought of as the European counterpart of the Chinese tonic Ginseng.

Chamomile, Comfrey, Calendula, Lemongrass Oh My!

    in Women

On today's show, Rosie, Numa and Jason are going to discuss how you can use hydrosols in your daily life and the benefits they can bring.  Here at Blended Herbal Treasures we have been listing the hydrosols we have produced this week and now we would like to discuss how we are using them and how you can benefit by using them. Join us to find out how to use these lovely waters and how you can incorporate them into your body products and skin care.

Hydrosols, hydrolats, or floral waters are made when essential oils are distilled. Hydrosols contain water-soluble components of the plants as well as small amounts of oils, so their chemistry is more complex than that of distilled oils. They tend to be gentler, too.

Hydrosols are a product of the essential oil steam distillation process.  During this process, hot steam is moved through the plant material, forcing it to give up its “essence.” Once it does, the steam containing the essence is moved through a condenser and into a separator, where the oil is separated from the water. The oil is the essential oil, of course, and the water is the hydrosol. Most of the essential oil’s chemical constituents are retained in the hydrosol, which means that it also retains many of the essential oil’s properties (the end-hydrosol usually contains about .02% essential oil,).  Hydrosols are quite affordable compared to essential oils and are being used extensively in Aromatherapy.  The cost depends upon the essential oil that was used in the distillation process.

Today's show is produced by Rosalea of Blended Herbal Treasures and cohosted by Numa and Jason.

Live Healthy you and I: Aromatherapy Oils for treatment of Eczema

    in Music

Choose Organic And Virgin Coconut Oil For Eczema Natural Treatment

It is best to select coconut oil that is both organic and virgin, as use for a natural treatment for eczema.

Organic Coconut Oil. Dry eczema skin can be a symptom of a highly toxic body. Hence, the last thing you want to do is to use a product that is not produced organically.

Virgin Coconut Oil. Virgin coconut oil is made by using fresh coconut meat with little or no processing, or what is called non-copra.

Most commercial grade coconut oils are produced from copra. Most of the copra, the meat of the coconut, is dried under the sun in the open air, where it gets exposed to insects and moulds. The standard end product made from copra is RBD coconut oil. RBD means refined, bleached, and deodorized. Both high heat and chemicals (e.g. solvent extractions) are used in this method.

A fragrant smell is characteristic of virgin coconut oils. Copra-based refined coconut oils have no taste or fragrance due to the refining process.
