Have you ever walked around your neighborhood, and seen a dog that seems to always be alone in the yard, chained to a post?
This cruel, and inhumane practice is known as chaining, or tethering.
Dogs are social creatures, and when isolated for long periods they become depressed, neurotic, anxious and aggressive. They go slowly insane.
A chained dog is usually confined to a very small area where he eats (if he's even fed!), sleeps, defecates, and urinates.
They are: usually malnourished, receive no veterinary care, are infested with fleas, ticks, heartworms, mange and other parasites, dirty and dehydrated. Some have starved to death.
Many die of heat exhaustion, or freeze to death.
Collars are often embedded in their necks from years of straining against them, or not having them adjusted as they grew. If that animal is lucky enough to be rescued, the collar has to be surgically removed.

Not too long ago, I read a news release from an organization about a young boy who had gone missing the day before and his family searched for him frantically. The next day or so, the boy's body was found floating in a river. He had been tortured, burned and then killed. This boy was killed to intimidate the family who were Christians.
There are hundreds and thousands of Christians who are intimidated, attacked, chained, imprisoned, beaten, and killed for their faith. They are located in countries where Christianity is in the minority. Some countries say it is against the law for them to be converts to any other religion besides the state religion. Others make protestations of acceptance of Christianity but refuse to help when Christian are attacked by extremist militant groups. However, these stalwart Christians refuse to renounce their faith.
Join me as I discuss this issue of the chained Christian with Alana Terry. You can call in to weigh in on our topic at 646-595-2083, press 1 to be live on air. Or, you can download the WLUV Radio mobile app today. Any way you can, join us.

In the United States of America lies a large industrial city, beside one of the nation's largest slave labor camps. Near the center are community settlements, where the slaves live.
Each morning the people move, herd style, from their slave quarters into the industrial camps. Each one is at his station at 7:00 a.m. Here, they report to their masters for their day's duties, and here, at these stations, they remain chained until the time of service is over, usually at 5:00 p.m. They have no choice as to how many hours they must labor. Sometimes they are required to work overtime until the master tells them they may leave.
Each year they are told to take vacations—for how long and when they must return. They have little choice as to how much money they can make, and they are allowed little time for lunch or coffee breaks during slave laboring hours. They remain in their caves and drink beer because their master can punish then; with the "layoff" whip. It is said that even some good and faithful slaves felt this whip.
Day by day, year after year, they toil, until the master decides it's time for them to stop work. He then releases them to retirement camps, where they are forced to sit idle and wait for death. It is all well known that the old people who try to work are sometimes whipped with the "stop your pension check" whip.

The top House Republican campaign official broke with other GOP leaders Wednesday in criticizing President Barack Obama over his chained CPI proposal.
During an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-Ore.) said Obama was “trying to balance this budget on the backs of seniors” with the plan, which would change the way Social Security cost-of-living adjustments are calculated.
Daniel Scarpinato, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, said Walden is opposed to “chained CPI,” even if that’s out of step with other GOP leaders.
“He believes it’s wrong to cut benefits for seniors to pay for more wasteful spending,” Scarpinato said.
Chapter 1: White House Calls for Hold on Decision Regarding Plan-B Morning After Pill The FDA announced lowered the age which young women can obtain Plan-B, the so-called “morning-after pill” without a prescription from 17 years-of-age to 15. A federal district judge thought there shouldn’t be any age restriction. The Administration reacted by asking the court for a stay while they appeal. We talk to Linda Feldmann reporter for the Christian Science Monitor who has been following the story. Chapter 2: Social Security and Chained CPI Retirement assistance be it Social Security and Medicare remains a constant battle when Congress debates the budget. Various budget proposals have varied on how they would address its solvency. President Obama included the adoption of chained-CPI to calculate future social security needs and payouts to retirees. The Senate did not. The Republican budget didn’t, but included other cuts. We talk to Mark Romm, Director of Masters Program in American Government at Georgetown University and Max Richtman, President and CEO of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security. Chapter 3: New Jersey Governor Chris Christie Using State Race for 2016 Ambitions Chris Christie is again bucking his own party, calling for expanded background checks to curb gun violence. Meanwhile, the New Jersey Gubernatorial election is 6 months away, though many are calling it a done deal. Christie is a popular national figure, even having been named one of Time’s 100 most influential people. His Opponent is Barbara Buono, a state senator who served as the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee and as majority leader. We get an update from Paul Mulshine, columnist at the New Jersey Star Ledger.

Ophelia Uke is a Motivational Catalyst and an Author. Writing was always an eye-opening outlet for expressing her feelings. Not only was it a coping mechanism, but also it was something she grew extremely passionate about. Growing up, she was referred to as a loner, not desiring the need of a lot of friends. However, she desperately desired acceptance. Vocalizing her feelings was not something she did. Rather Ophelia sat in her emotions good and bad alike. Yet she was estranged from who she truly was. Ophelia loved to uplift, encourage, motivate, empower, and inspire others. She could never stand to see the pain of another, especially if they mimicked the ones that were chained to her. With that realization, she found her purpose, but first, she had to fix herself. Ophelia became a writer, because she finally found her voice, and through her words, she saw how she was able to inspire others.

Dogs Deserve Better, a national and award-winning nonprofit organization, is a voice for chained and penned dogs. As the days become years, many of these dogs sit, lay, eat, and defecate within the same 10-foot radius. Chained by the neck, they exist without respect, love, exercise, social interaction, and sometimes even basic nourishment. They live as prisoners, yet long to be pets.
"Dogs Deserve Better has dogs we have rescued from chains or pens available for adoption at both our Good Newz Rehab Center in Smithfield, Virginia, and in foster homes nationwide. At any given time we may have as many as 50-75 dogs available for adoption, depending on our ability."
