Join your host Wes Blackman as he welcomes Lake Worth Mayor Pam Triolo and City Manager Michael Bornstein to discuss the Lake Worth 2020 infrastructure improvement program. There is a ballot question related to this program appearing on the August 26th ballot - whether to allow the city to issue bonds totaling $63.5 million to fund the program or to not allow the city to do so. Mayor Triolo and Mr. Bornstein will review the program, tell us about upcoming opportunities to hear more about the plan and try to answer questions that we and they have heard throughout the community on the program.
Here, Mayor Triolo reviews events prior to the election where you can learn more:
"If you still have not been a part of a LW 2020 informational session presented by the city, you still have 3 more chances! Friday night at 7pm they'll be a meeting at the LW Playhouse. Saturday at 5pm the City will be presenting at the College Park Neighborhood Association meeting at First Congregational Church. Sunday at Noon they'll be a 2020 presentation at the Wimbley Gym- 1515 Wingfield Street off of 12th Avenue South- no need for a sitter as they'll be hamburgers, hotdogs, soft drinks and activities for the kids! The vote is this Tuesday folks. No matter what side of the issue you are on, please make sure you get the facts first. There's no need to guess or wonder or speculate. You will be able to ask questions directly to city staff at all of these meetings. And as an aside, please be respectful and kind to one another. Whatever happens, we have a lot of work to do and it always works better when we do it together!"

ST. LOUIS COUNTY - A local theater franchise has canceled plans to show a new documentary about race in St. Louis County. According to Riverfront Times, Wehrenberg Theaters has decided not show the film "Spanish Lake" at local theaters when it's released this year. The film chronicles the decline of the North St. Louis County town, "Spanish Lake," situated just 8 miles from Ferguson, MO. Ferguson is the city currently experiencing daily protest since August 9, 2014 when Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson shot and killed 18 year old Michael Brown. Many believe the decline of both Ferguson and "Spanish Lake" are due to redlining by the county government.
The film's Facebook page posted the following statement:
SPANISH LAKE was planned to come back to St. Louis theaters on September 5th. However, Wehrenberg Theatres has decided to cancel the screenings due to the recent developments in Ferguson. We respect their decision and are sensitive to the tensions in the area, but we are disappointed because we believe the message of the film is more important than ever before.
Oh boy bears! I love bears!! And bears love Kurile Lake in Russia. We are back on our planetary journey visiting Kamchatka, Russia. Kamthatka is considered one of the most interesting places on the earth. The Kamchatka Peninsula's volcanic terrain is a product of a rapid geological past, when it was plunged in and out of the ocean. The seismic activity is still present: 800 earthquakes are registered every year, and 30 volcanoes (300 in total) sometimes remind everyone of their active lifestyle with powerful (and not so powerful) eruptions. Kurile Lake is part of South Kamchatka Wildlife Refuge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, at the altitude of 104 meters above sea level.Kurile Lake is one of Europe's largest locations of salmon spawning (Pacific salmon) Salmon population varies from 2 million to 6 million! Kurile Lake is a long salmon spawning period: from June to March. Both factors attract many brown bears to the lakeshore. Under normal conditions bears avoid each other, but during salmon spawning period they group together. One can observe up to 20 bears near the lake simultaneously: they are so preoccupied with fishing that they ignore not only other bears, but also humans. We will explore their spiritual symbolism and energies as well as cosmic connections. We will use their amazing gifts to us in meditation for the planet.
