New Orleans based, indie dance rock artist Ryan Gray, aka Luxley,is releasing his debut album and has recently joined the Bombay Bicycle Club and Milo Greene’s Fall 2014 North American Tour. Luxley’s Spirit debut EP marks the return of co-producer and former Passion Pit member Ayad Al-Adhamy to the world of catchy, synth-pop hooks from his guitar driven, punk rock anthem slinging project Team Spirit and production of Black Bell Records. Justin Gerrish (Vampire Weekend, The Strokes) lends his ear as engineer and mixer, helping to draw out the indie, pop, and timeless dance synth-centric elements.
After moving back home from Nashville and a promising career in medicine, Luxley reconnected with the local NOLA scene and old friend (now manager and founder of Rude Fox Records) Sky McElroy, and began recording his new music. Luxley is currently on a North American tour through with the 2014 Mercury Prize Finalist Bombay Bicycle Club and cinematic pop quintet Milo Greene. But he is stopping by for a conversation with us at Music FridayLive!.
Rain Perry is an award-winning songwriter. Her song “Beautiful Tree” was the theme for the CW Network’s Life Unexpected, on which she also had the surreal pleasure of playing herself alongside Ben Lee and Sarah McLachlan. In addition to releasing four albums on her own Precipitous Records, Rain is the author of the autobiographical play Cinderblock Bookshelves: A Guide for Children of Fame-Obsessed Bohemian Nomads. She is currently producing the film, The Shopkeeper, about the demise of the independent recording studio. We will play her tunes and talk about the film this Friday.
The Wall Street Journal dubbed musician Salme Dahlstrom a “savvy singer” and “music licensing queen” when, like Moby before her, she managed to license every track from her 2008 album The Acid Cowgirl Audio Trade to various corporations and television programs. At the time, Dahlstrom was not only just getting noticed, she was just getting started.
“C’mon Y’All,” one of catchiest numbers on an album of catchy numbers climbed Billboard’s Dance Chart and eventually received prominent placements in major ad campaigns for CoverGirl, Suave, and Kellogg’s that ran on primetime network television for months.
Trust us, you know this song!
While managing what inevitably became a highly successful licensing business, Dahlstrom continued to do the work that got her there, releasing the first of a three-EP set as a follow-up to the various singles and remixes that came from and were inspired by The Acid Cowgirl Audio Trade.
“Pop Propaganda Volume 2: Retro Funk Soul Junction” bySalme Dahlstrom is scheduled for release on September 16th, 2014 via Kontainer Music. The first single “Pop Ur Heart Out” was released on August 5th, 2014, accompanied by a trio of remixes of the track by SpekrFreks, DJ Phunkae, and Quadrat Beat on August 26th, 2014.
There's so much more to Salme and you will here it from her when she joins Take 2 Radio Music on Wednesday, Sept. 17th at 3:30pm eastern!
Join us this week as we welcome the country pop music duo, Gracie and Joey. Gracie Varga and Joey Jacob met while singing at their church. They realized quickly that their voices and musical desires blended very well. With the desire to move into the country genre they began putting their lyrics and music together. They soon realized that the songs that were difficult to write on their own, were easy to finish together. Their music has a pop and modern country feel similar to Lady Antebellum. Catchy melodies and heartfelt lyrics can be heard on the EP “Runaways”, which they recorded with Billboard charting platinum producers Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount. The music video for their single “Lovin' You” produced by Revolution Pictures, the same team behind videos for Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift, helps put to motion the music they like to share. They have been performing around Nashville and into Georgia and Florida. Their heart-felt lyrics and catchy melodies along with their blended vocals have captured the attention of all who hear them. We will talk to Gracie and Joey about their upcoming schedule, get a behind the scenes look at their music, feature their latest songs, and ask them to share their message for the troops. Please be sure to visit Gracie and Joey at http://www.gracieandjoeymusic.com/ and spread the word. Fans are welcome to call in and speak live with with them during the show (718) 766-4193. If you would like to participate in the live chat during the show, you must sign up on the show site first and then log in during the show. And as always we will give shout outs to our deployed military listeners. Be sure to join us, Sunday 9/28/2014 at 4 PM EDT! Our message to the troops....WE do what we do, because YOU do what you do.
Interlaced in singer-songwriter Jesse Macht’s catchy melodies are an abundance of stories overflowing with passion, vulnerability, empathy and honesty. Much like legendary songwriters before him such as Tom Petty and Neil Young, and modern day influences like Dan Wilson and Jon Brion, Jesse has proven his aptitude for storytelling. His music has been placed in many television shows and networks, as well as commercials, including The Voice, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Giuliana and Bill, Nickelodeon, Cymbalta and the MTV/E! cable catalogue. He’s also had numerous original songs placed in independent films such as James Franco’s "Good Time Max."
Jesse has followed a path similar to his family of entertainers (his brother is actor Gabriel Macht, currently starring in USA’s "Suits," and father is veteran actor Stephen Macht). He has worked hard to make a musical home for himself (both as a solo artist and with his old band Burn Down the Mission) within L.A.’s well-known songwriter community with regular appearances at the Hotel Café, Room 5 and WitZend. Jesse Macht connects with his audience through reflective, conversational lyrics. While his words are dynamic and unapologetically truthful at times, he leaves room for his audience to contribute to the dialogue by using their own experiences. The new album, expected to come out in the fall of 2014, follows Jesse’s 2012 debut solo release Acts of Providence. With it, he hopes to continue to inspire his audience and encourage them to be vulnerable.

Los Angeles based studio vocalist and Posi recording artist, Felice Hernandez has at last released her first solo album, “Accidental Life”. To quote Felice, “I’ve been singing for other people all of my life. It’s really great to be able to do something for myself!” Her voice has been heard worldwide backing up numerous recording artists, including Hilary Duff (Metamorphosis tour), Kevin Spacey (Beyond the Sea tour), Neil Young (Living With War), Michael McDonald, Josh Groban and many more. Felice’s signature voice is heard daily on international radio as the station i.d. singer of Heart FM in England, as well as on Q102 in Dublin, Ireland.
Felice Hernandez puts her best foot forward on her debut cd. She joins forces with producer-songwriter, Herman Eng, to create an array of fun and catchy r&b-flavored pop. Lyrics are important to every great songwriter, and hers speak of truth, wisdom and real-life experiences. The first cut, “Same Old Same” is reminiscent of classic Sly Stone describing the frustration of dear friends who can’t follow good advice. “Cool” sings of sweet appreciation for true love, while “It’s All Mine” puts emphasis on life’s simple pleasures and an attitude of living in the moment. In 2008, Felice released an internet single entitled, "Little Star" which was written for her daughter's christening.
Felice continues to perform regularly at Unity of South Bay in Torrance, Calfornia.
Lady B from NYC takes you back to the days of Boy Bands. Songs from groups such as NSYNC, LFO, 98°, BBMAK, 5ive and some more have been added to the rotation. Despite boy bands being seen to some as an annoyance...you have to admit...some songs were just too catchy to hate.
