Something's Brewing with Casey and John - Holland Cowger

    in Entertainment

    Join us

Holland was born and raised in Hollywood, California, and currently lives in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It was not uncommon for the entire clan to spend holidays, birthdays and other important life events together. Holland’s father is a jazz musician. He plays a haunting and beautiful alto sax. As a child Holland used to love watching his father play. Some of his fondest memories are of nights spent in all-night jazz clubs till the wee hours of the morning watching him pour every inch of his soul into his glorious sax. His mother, Keithe, is an avid reader. Holland’s childhood was filled with jazz, rock and roll, art and an endless stream of books. But there was also his love of baseball. Holland’s dad signed him up for the Hollywood Little League when he was eight years old. Baseball came easily to him. Hailing down flies beneath huge summer skies, watching the ball explode off his bat and disappear into a tiny dot. He soon learned that this was a game filled with poetry and miracles, an inch being the difference between failure and success.

    in Books

Casey Rislov holds a master’s degree in elementary education and is endorsed in early childhood and special needs. She has spent most of her career teaching children everything from swimming and downhill ski racing to developmental skills and reading and writing.

Casey credits her parents for encouraging her from a young age to open new doors whenever possible. Whether it was the door to education, the outdoors, friends, hobbies, new activities, or travel, they always supported her adventurous ways. And it was in this spirit that Casey wrote her third book, Open the Doors to You. She hopes her book will encourage readers to discover what new adventures are waiting behind each door.

    DELIVER US-Kathryn Casey

    in Entertainment

Critically acclaimed author Kathryn Casey delivers a riveting account of the brutal murders of young women in the I-45/Texas Killing Fields

Over a three-decade span, more than twenty women—many teenagers—died mysteriously in the small towns bordering Interstate 45, a fifty-mile stretch of highway running from Houston to Galveston. The victims were strangled, shot, or savagely beaten. Six met their demise in pairs. They had one thing in common: being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The day she vanished, Colette Wilson waited for her mother after band practice. Best friends Debbie Ackerman and Maria Johnson loved to surf and were last seen hitchhiking. Laura Kate Smither dreamed of becoming a ballerina and disappeared just weeks before her thirteenth birthday.

In this harrowing true crime exposition, award-winning journalist Kathryn Casey tracks these tragic cases, investigates the evidence, interviews the suspects, and pulls back the cloak of secrecy in search of elusive answers. IBM toxic pool defies cleanup

    TOM WILBER, Special to the Press & Sun-Bulletin 1:37 p.m. EDT April 5, 2015

A remedy for a concentrated pool of solvents directly under the manufacturing site where at least 1,500 people still work may take years to find.

    Story Highlights

The contaminated hot spot lies under an area the size of eight village blocks.
Situated over and near the source area, and blocking access to cleanup, are dozens of buildings.
To date, nearly 70,000 gallons of solvent %u2014 more than 40 tons %u2014 have been pumped from the ground.

ENDICOTT – After 35 years, IBM Corp. contractors have stanched the flow of industrial solvents into a commercial and residential district in the heart of the village, but they have yet to find a solution for the source of the problem at the company's former flagship manufacturing plant.

Officials recently reported that efforts to intercept and remove the subterranean flow of hazardous chemicals coming from the industrial complex — now owned by Huron Real Estate Associates — have been successful. Consequently, health risks to a nearby neighborhood have been eliminated.

Yet they have no remedy for a concentrated pool of solvents directly under the manufacturing site, where at least 1,500 people still work. Full story: http://www.pressconnects.com/story/news/local/2015/04/05/ibm-tce-issues/25302109/
