Thanksgiving may be the most popular day of the year for family gatherings, but it’s not always the healthiest. Traditional holiday gravy, for example, runs upwards of 500 calories per serving. To reduce that gut-busting number by about 80 percent, Chef JoAnna Minneci—whose celebrity clients include Modern Family star Julie Bowen and Devious Maids star Roselyn Sánchez—has a simple yet delicious solution. “Take regular button mushrooms and cook them in a little vegetable oil until they’re very soft. Then blend the mushrooms with some flour and vegetable stock. Then put it back in the pan to let the flour thicken,” she tells Chefs Line host Jenn Beisser. Stuffing, too, can be madeover as a healthy dish. “Add diced green apples, grated carrots or celery, which will increase the bulk without adding many calories,” says Chef JoAnna. “And use a vegetable stock instead of the pan drippings, to moisten the stuffing.”
"The Golden Carrot of Enlightenment"
There are two carrots referenced in this title. One, this world dangles in front of you telling you all the while that IT is THE ONE....the end all, that IF ONLY you could get the million bucks/guy/gal/car/house/boat/job/ad nauseum,...that THEN you'll Be Happy. Oh, and BTW....they're the only ones who have it, the only ones who can provide your happiness.
The Second Carrot referenced in the title, is one LONG sought after -by this host anyhow- is that when Enlightenment is "achieved" I'd surely know Joy the rest of my days beside the still waters. Whoops! Wrong carrot again! Both carrots are the SAME!?!
IS THIS ALL THERE IS?? Sheer FOLLY from beginning to end? That EVEN IF you get your Golden Carrot... it's not going to taste very good for very long, much less the rest of Life??
"No. There is another." -Yoda
After tearing apart the current 'carrot chase' we've devised as the reason for existing, we will explore:

Simon Sinek is leading a movement to build a wolrd in which the ast majority of us are inspiried by the work we do. Millions have already seen his video on TED.com about the importance of knowing WHY we do what we do. Any person and organization can explain WHAT they do; so can explain HOW they are different or better; but very few can cleary articulate WHY! WHY is not about money or profits, those are the results. WHY is the thing that inspires us and inspires those around us.&nbs
Your performance on game day will depend on the foods you've eaten over the past several days and weeks. But you can boost your performance even more by paying attention to the food you eat on game day. Strive for a game-day diet rich in carbohydrates, moderate in protein, and low in fat.
Here are some guidelines on what to eat and when:
Eat a meal 2 to 4 hours before the game or event: Choose a protein and carbohydrate meal (like a turkey or chicken sandwich, cereal and milk, chicken noodle soup and yogurt, or pasta with tomato sauce). Eat a snack less than 2 hours before the game: If you haven't had time to have a pre-game meal, be sure to have a light snack such as low-fiber fruits or vegetables (like plums, melons, cherries, carrots), crackers, a bagel, or low-fat yogurt. Consider not eating anything for the hour before you compete or have practice because digestion requires energy — energy that you want to use to win. Also, eating too soon before any kind of activity can leave food in the stomach, making you feel full, bloated, crampy, and sick.
Everyone is different, so get to know what works best for you. You may want to experiment with meal timing and how much to eat on practice days so that you're better prepared for game day.
Want to get an eating plan personalized for you? The U.S. government has developed a website, ChooseMyPlate.gov, that tells a person how much to eat from different food groups based on age, gender, and activity level.
