    Laura Johnston Kohl, Jonestown Survivor

    in History

After participating with the Black Panthers, and attending Woodstock, Laura moved into Peoples Temple in California in 1970, and was an active and enthusiastic member until the day it ended.  She moved to Guyana in March 1977.  She frequently traveled between Georgetown and Jonestown, a 24-hour boat ride, but moved into Jonestown in October 1978.  Laura’s survival was a fluke.

It took twenty years for Laura to rebuild her life and have the determination to research this tragedy.  The first ten years were spent in Synanon.  Then, she reunited with many of the other survivors to put the pieces together and to get some understanding.  After ten years she wrote her autobiography.

Today, Laura is a bilingual teacher, a member of ReadLocal San Diego, on the Speakers’ Bureau of The Jonestown Institute, a bilingual international speaker, a Quaker, and a Board Member of the Communal Studies Association.  She is interviewed often by national and international media, most recently on television, internet and radio programs.

Re-Modeling the Mind: Personality in Balance - Author RUTH JOHNSTON

    in Entertainment

Who doesn't love a personality theory? Unfortunately, to many readers, personality systems seem like checklists, confining boxes, or games and gimmicks. We know we're all unique and in some ways we never stop changing; at the same time, we humans do fall into groups that are somewhat predictable. A useful personality theory needs to define, explain, predict and still leave room for flexibility and uniqueness.

Building on Jungian philosophy and deep personal observation, Ruth Johnston presents a living model of human personality. In this interview, we'll be talking about one of the building-block ideas: inborn, instinctive knowledge. Parts of our personalities are flexible and learn easily, while other parts are idealistic, confident and a bit rigid. We're different because each personality has these parts arranged in its own way.

Ruth, an old high school friend of mine, will join me to talk about these personality ideas by using some classic movies as illustrations. Some Frank Capra, some Film Noir, a surprise pick she won't tell me about in advance. I've been reading her book and I'm looking forward to talking movies and personality!

Re-modeling the Mind is available at Amazon.  For additional info we didn't have time to finish in the interview, visit Ruth's blog at: http://re-modelingthemind.com/wp/2015/11/16/who-are-you-radio-interview/
