When a Mom's Caregiver SUDDENLY Needs a Caregiver Herself, Karla Jepson's Story

    in Caregiving

Join Dave, The Caregiver's Caregiver, as he interviews Tereza Harper & Hana Eicher, the two sisters of Karla Jepson, caregiver to her mom for over a year, that is, until she had a massive aneurysm that left her with severe short-term memory loss and paralysis on her left side. Now her sisters have become not only their mom's caregiver, but Karla’s as well. They will talk about their ordeal, and how they learned how burnout and stress can be disabling, as it was for Karla.

Back in 1979, their family all escaped from Communist Czechoslovakia. Karla's family stayed in a refugee camp in Austria for 5 months and came to California where they settled with the help of the parents' friends. None of them spoke any English when they first came.

Tereza & Hana are both in the health care industry; Karla was a purchasing director at a private school in Calabasas. They each have wonderful children. Hana has a 16 year daughter, Sarah, Karla has a 17 year old son Jake, and Tereza has two daughters, 6 year old Stana, and 4 year old Lenka.

Their dad passed away four years ago, and their mom hurt her lower spine taking care of him in his last two years of life.

They believe the reason they are able to get through all of this hardship is that they were always a very close knit family. It is very difficult for them now to watch their Mom and sister become just a shell of their former selves. They grieve for them, and yet they are still with them.

Caregiver Stress Reduction Tips & Tools

    in Military

As a caregiver, you may be so focused on your loved one that you don't realize that your own health and well-being are suffering. Watch for these signs of caregiver stress:

    Feeling overwhelmed or constantly worried
Feeling tired most of the time
Sleeping too much or too little
Gaining or losing a lot of weight
    Becoming easily irritated or angry
Losing interest in activities you used to enjoy
    Feeling sad
Having frequent headaches, bodily pain or other physical problems
Abusing alcohol or drugs, including prescription medications

Too much stress, especially over a long time, can harm your health. As a caregiver, you're more likely to experience symptoms of depression or anxiety. In addition, you may not get enough sleep or physical activity, or eat a balanced diet — which increases your risk of medical problems, such as heart disease and diabetes. On this episode of Hope For The Warriors Talk Radio we will share stress-reduction tips and strategies.

SPECIAL GUESTS: Military Veteran Caregivers, Colleen Saffron and Glenda Leary will talk about their experiences of being on the verge of caregiver burnout and how they were able to successfully combat caregiver burnout. Heather Moates will also guest appear on our show and share how she's found stress reduction, individuality and HOPE through creating beautiful wreaths and starting her own business.

Guest Speaker Micheal Boldea Of Hand Of Help Ministries On "Heads Up Warriors"

    in Religion

Mike Boldea was born in a small northern Romanian Village.   At the age of nine, his entire family was deported from Romania for smuggling Bibles.  His grandfather, Dumitru Duduman started an outreach ministry called "Hand of Help" of which Mike is now Chairman.

Mike has traveled internationally with Dumitru for over 11 years acting as Dumitru's translator.  They shared their testimonies, as well as an important message God gave Dumitru for the United States.

Recently Mike has translated the book entitled "Life In Christ" which Dumitru had penned prior to his death.  The testimonies of those that were persecuted for their faith must live on to build up the body of Christ.  Mike continues to operate in his gift as an Evangelist to exhort the body of Christ to present itself with a garment clean before our Lord.

Michael has a strong Christian heritage coming from a line of 4 generations of Christians.  In the village of Hinceste Romania his Great grandfather was one of the first Christians converted there and his grandfather was a pastor and his father pastors the "Messiah" church in Botosani Romania with over 800 members.  Their family worked with Richard Wurmbrandt, Harlan Popoff, and brother Andrew taking bibles to the underground Church.

Michael has seen the presence of God in accomplishing the work that his family was called to.  In the face of great persecution and opposition thousands of bibles were given to the Christians of Romania even though it was punishable by imprisonment if caught.  His grandfather Dumitru Duduman did suffer greatly being imprisoned for his faith.  Under extreme torture he never recanted his faith and stands as a witness of faithfulness to this day in Romania.
