Curtis Harwell Discusses How To Get Rid Of That Muffin Top For Good

    in Fitness

Could this be the recipe for deflating the muffin top? A recent study compared three groups—those who ate a reduced-carbohydrate diet, those who combined the diet with strength training and those who combined the diet and strength-training with cardio workouts—and found that a three-tier approach was the most effective strategy to decrease abdominal fat. It's important to note that the exercises you choose and the effort you put into them really matter, says Marta Montenegro, a certified strength and conditioning coach who teaches exercise physiology at Florida International University. Instead of ho-hum treadmill-trotting and sit-ups, she recommends high-intensity workouts, which have been shown to be more effective at reducing the belly fat you can pinch with your hand, as well as the visceral fat that pads internal organs (which has been linked to metabolic disturbances and increased risk for cardiovascular disease and type-2 diabetes).

Montenegro put together this hard-core high-intensity workout based on the latest research, her work with clients and her own experience (that's her in the photos; those abs don't lie).

Evening Primrose, Tulsi Basil and Hyssop! Garden Herbs that will surprise you!

    in Gardening

On tonight's show, Rosie, Numa and jason will be discussing three interesting herbs that you can cultivate in your own garden that have powerful healing capabilities.  Evening Primrose is most popularly known in its seed oil form frequently sold in health food stores for its high gamma-linolenic acid content.  Although you will see supplements of this plant widly advertised, on tonight's show we will be  talking about growing and using the whole plant, including leaves, buds, blooms, roots and seeds.

Also known as “Tulsi” or “The Incomparable One,” holy basil is one of the most sacred plants in India. In Hindu mythology, Tulsi symbolizes the goddess Lakshmi, the wife of Vishnu, who is one of the religion's most important deities. The herb has been valued for centuries because of its benefits for the mind, body, and spirit.

The hyssop herb is generally used to treat the symptoms of cardiovascular disorders. Because it is both a sedative and a stimulant, one of its uses may be to regulate a person’s blood pressure, whether it is too high or too low. Hyssop leaves can also be infused in order to suppress coughs, improve digestion and even relieve congestion in the intestines.

The show is sponsored by Rosalea and Blended Herbal Treasures at www.bhtshop.com.
