On Nov. 10, the New York City Council voted to create the Department of Veterans’ Services. Sponsored by Councilman Eric Ulrich, the DVS will replace the current Office of Veterans’ Affairs and expand upon its role. The bill will further provide the Department with the responsibility to cooperate with federal, state, and local agencies and to inform and assist members of the armed forces, veterans and their families.
On Veterans Day 2015, NYC Council Speaker Melissa-Mark Viverito and Councilman Ulrich will join The Wave's Managing Editor Mark Healey on the newspaper's podcast "Riding The Wave" to discuss the new department.
The Wave provides comprehensive coverage of the Rockaway penisula and has been Rockaway's newspaper since 1893.

This episode is the breakdown of the holidays and what they can mean to the services. Those with familys may act different than those witout familys, and there may be suprises out there that suprise you. Does everyone go home to the comfort of their home on Thanksgiving? Maybe their comfort of home is now the barracks? These times of the year can be extremely difficult for Service Members and Veterans alike as these dates are used in reflection of days not so long ago, in situations far from ideal. Join us tonight, what is your opinion?
