It's Not To Late to Get a Home Base Business Tax shelther for 2014 Tax year

    in Business

If You Don't Have a Home-Based Business, Start One Today! by Sandy Botkin

The young and the middle-aged alike are realizing that their dream of "having a job with a company
forever" is an illusion. Companies have been downsizing, rightsizing, and capsizing for some time now,
and they continue to do so-more now than ever before. Even the federal and state governments are
getting into the act with layoffs and attrition of jobs.
Finally, if all this isn't bad enough, under recent tax laws employees are shafted more than ever with limits
and thresholds for their employee deductions and higher social security tax limits. This results in more
couples working than ever before and, on many occasions, working more than one job. It is now almost
impossible to have only one job in the family and make ends meet! Today, many households need three
    incomes just to survive.

Why a Home-Based Business Makes So Much "Cents"
There are really two sets of tax laws in this country. One is for employees, and it allows deductions for
individual retirement accounts, 401(k)s (if you have one set up by your company), interest and property
taxes on your home (which some in Congress want to do away with ), and charity. Then there are the
laws for home-based business people who conduct their business either full-time or part-time. They can
deduct, with proper documentation ,their house, their spouse, and even children (by hiring them), their
business vacations, their cars, and their food with colleagues. It is for these reasons, according to
Entrepreneur magazine, that 95 percent of home-based businesses succeed in their first year and
achieve an average income of $50,250 per year with many earning much more.

Topically Yours - Senate candidate Robert Jackson

    in Entertainment

Host Deardra Shuler interviews candidate Robert Jackson who is running for a Senate seat in the 31st district in Manhattan.

Robert Jackson served as a Community School Board President, City Council leader and Education Committee Chair.  He has built a record of hard work and integrity and knows how to get things done.  He has a record to prove it.  Jackson is presently running for State Senate to help provide good schools for children to make certain every child has the same chance to succeed as he had.  Jackson continues to fight for workers rights, human rights and to pass the Women's Equality Act, the NY DREAM Act and for an increase in minimum wage. As a marathon runner, Mr. Jackson recently ran a 12.8 mile run for peace.

As a Community School Board President, Robert Jackson filed a lawsuit against the state to fix an inequitable New York State school funding distribution formula that was cheating NYC schools and undermining our children’s future. He walked 150 miles to Albany to highlight the cause and won a court judgment that awarded $16 billion for NYC schools.  In 2001, Robert Jackson was elected to the City Council. He was reelected 3 times.  He was chosen to Chair the Education Committee and Co-Chair the Black, Latino and Asian Caucus. On the City Council, he effected more than 4,000 new openings for pre-k, fought to prevent thousands of teacher layoffs and helped start the Drop Out Prevention Initiative. He worked to increase jobs by sponsoring legislation to protect small businesses, create a community manpower training program,  fought to budget senior centers, libraries and keep fire stations open.

Born and raised in Manhattan, Robert and his family have lived in Washington Heights since 1975. He attended New York City public schools and graduated from State University of New York at New Paltz. He is  married and a dedicated father of three daughters.

WHO'S TO BLAME: RESPECT MY LABOR

    in Politics

Issue: Corporations, job creators and even some workers do not respect our labor.  Who's to Blame?

Though both corporate productivity and corporate profits climb, workers' wages remain stagnant. CEO's continue to see big payouts, even during economic downturn.  Corporations are being accused of wage theft.  America can't even get our legislators to respect our labor through increasing the minimum wage.

However, without the productivity of the worker you don't have profits.   Why don't workers get paid more for their productivity?  Laborers, they get no respect.

Is the government to Blame for not raising the minimum wage?

Would a $2.00 wage increase kill business and force them into layoffs?

Do you feel that a worker's productivity is not always worth a certain wage?

Do workers even know what their labor is worth?

Looking For a Few Good People: Layoffs in Afghanistan!

    in Politics Conservative

Just when you think you have seen it all, the Obama Administration pulls another boneheaded move. When it seems like there is a war in almost every part of the world, what does the Obama administration do? Tell a great number of our troops in Afghanistan, you are being let go! That’s right fired, laid off, canned, all while they are still on the battlefield. The Kremlin now certainly feels that Russia is the dominant world power, and ISIS certainly feels empowered. High school students studying Civics can draft a better Foreign Policy. Where is the dominant media, why are they supporting the destruction of our status as a world power? Is the end of America Near? What do you think? Join Jimmy and Bernie today at 7:00PM EDT as they discuss this and much more on Let’s Talk Justice America, on the Blog Talk Radio Network.

#099 Teacher's Lunch Box - Matt Sellors - Supporting Local Teachers

    in Education

The Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) Program is the largest school based father engagement program in the nation with nearly 4000 schools participating.

It all started with a coffee delivery for the teachers at the start of the school year not long after the Daily Grind opened. I noticed teachers working extremely hard to get the school year started. Decorating the class rooms (at their own expense) and planning…planning…planning. Attempting to make the year the most impactful that they could. What really woke me up was a teacher, with trailer in tow, hand loading cases of text books and dragging them down the hall to her class. I honestly believe that most people have no idea what a teacher goes through to “teach” our kids.

I see teachers working non stop at the Grind (even on the weekends) planning their classes in an attempt to truly help our kids. With budget cuts and teacher layoffs, why do they do what they do? We all know it’s not the paycheck. I’m convinced it’s a sincere desire to really help the kids.

What can we do to show our appreciation for our teachers? After all, a good teacher teaches….A GREAT TEACHER sparks a life long desire to seek knowledge and change the world for the better. One thing I have learned is that showing sincere appreciation for what one does causes them to excel. Truly appreciating a teacher ….makes a GREAT Teacher!

We decided to provide a “healthy lunch” at the lowest possible price, while at the same time reaching out to the community to find partners to reward our teachers for what they do! Our desire is that appreciation from the community would encourage our teachers to be GREAT!

Each week, WatchDOGS Radio host Keith Schumacher and co-host Chris Danenhauer discuss how this program is impacting families and schools across our nation and in three foreign countries.
