Shriekfest Radio Festival Director/Founder Denise Gossett interviews filmmaker Jason Brawn!
Sunday’s Formula One Grand Prix in Shanghai China was off to a great start, with champion race leader, Lewis Hamilton on pole. Fresh off the starting line behind Lewis was Rosberg and Vettel. By lap 12, the top seven on the track were Hamilton, Rosberg, Vettel, Raikkonen, Massa, Grosjean and Verstappen.
Toro Rosso’s Max Verstappen, the youngest driver in Formula One, out drove the big bad Red Bulls, until lap 54 when he suffered a DNF in what appeared to be, gearbox failure. Unfortunately, the safety car was deployed. The race was finished under the safety car with a Mercedes 1-2, lead by Lewis Hamilton who won comfortably crossed the finish line first, Rosberg second, Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen third and fourth respectively. Coming in fifth was Williams-Martini driver Felipe Massa, with teammate Valtteri Bottas close behind in sixth. A great surprise for the Lotus team when Romain Grosjean, came in seventh. The Sauber garage was quite jubilant when, both of their drivers finished in the top ten. In another star-studded podium interview, the great Olympian runner, Edwin Moses, conducted the interview with Hamilton, Vettel and Rosberg, just as Arnold Schwarzeneggar did at the Australian Grand Prix. The thorn in Mercedes side this season will be Ferrari, and the thorn in Ferrari’s side, will be Williams.

Coming up tonight on The Boiler Room: New Year's Resolutions have been something by which many, if not most, people swear by each year; and all too often, they fail and fall back into habits they've been trying to beat. What causes this, and how can people overcome this point of failure and stick to their guns? George Jr. Shaouni, owner of Powerhouse Gym in Troy, will be live in the studio to talk about tips and tricks to overcome this vice of laziness. Then, why have women suddenly started wearing the pants and men the panties in the community? What caused this shift in roles that has left men wussified and women dominant? Listeners are encouraged to call in with questions and comments at 347-857-3847.
Venita and her husband, Duwayne, own C & J Trophy & Engraving, a family business. The couple makes it work by setting serious boundaries. Nestled between the University of Memphis campus and the Orange Mound Community, one of the largest and oldest black neighborhoods in the country. They purchased the business and property had been in business for over 30 years. The startup risk was low, but the stakes were high since they knew nothing about the awards and recognition industry. For the first few years, The Smiths didn’t change a thing. Fortunately, Venita had experience in retail and operations management and her husband had background in color proofing and lithographic photography, so they threw caution to the wind and went for it. And, eight years later, the rest is history.
Her first job, was at the Memphis in May International Festival as Secretary. That position would lead becoming its Operations Director for 10 years. That led her to become the Director of Operations at the National Civil Rights Museum. During her 16-year tenure, she assisted with two renovation projects and two expansion projects all while managing the day-to-day operations of the 40,000 square foot facility, 13 full time staff members, security, housekeeping and IT contractors. Venita retired in 2014 to focus more on the family business.
With her father owning a shoe repair business for over 30 years and her mother, who was a beautician and owned her own salon, Venita was destined to become an entrepreneur. Venita watched her parents as they worked together like hand and glove to provide a comfortable lifestyle for her family. They managed to work together as a team, like she and her husband Duwayne. Venita is the brain and Duwayne is the brawn.

“There is a difference between the fact and the truth. The fact is what you may be experiencing at any particular point in time in your life, the day-to-day reality of life, the struggles, the challenges, the issues and the problems that you face on a daily basis. On the other hand, the truth is what God’s Word says about the particular situation you are going through or the challenges you currently face...God expects you to confess and proclaim the truth of His Word, not the fact of your daily struggles!” “Take God at His Word – because winning the battle doesn't require physical brawn, but spiritual brains!” Pedro Okoro
