Angel Capital vs Venture Capital: The Wealth DNA radio show is dedicated to helping you increase your wealth, and to educating and informing investors. As a part of our series on Alternative Investments we need to cover some of the least known and highly successful investment areas - Angel Capital and Venture Capital (VC).
From past shows, you already know institutional investors and the big endowment funds with great performance have a large allocation in Alternative Investments ... and certainly they rely on VC to boost their long-term results. Could you and I and participate in the arena? Does it require millions of dollars to invest? Should you be an Angel? Are there funds you can participate in? What are the risks and returns? How do you get started?
To give you the answers to these and many others we have as our special guests Curtis Gunn and Base Horner the principals of Desert Angels a group of Angel Investors based in Tucson AZ. You will be surprised to learn that Desert Angels is a non-profit group of 80 investors who have reviewed 100's of companies and invested in more than 50 companies.
Your mission - should you chose to accept it - is to get a cup of coffee, or glass of wine and join in the conversation …

Andrew Lilley: NJ Filmmaker of Loose Gravel Films
Baseball. The National Pastime. Cooperstown and the legends within still provide romance and mystique for baseball fans everywhere. Babe Ruth said, “Every strike brings me closer to the next home run.” Andrew Lilley is a NJ filmmaker with the mission of bringing timeless stories to film so they endure. Well, Andrew hit a metaphoric home run himself with his debut film I’ll Knock A Homer For You: The Timeless Story of Johnny Sylvester and Babe Ruth -- he won the recent Garden State Film Festival’s Home Grown Documentary Feature award. Andrew, a 2008 graduate of NY Film Academy, found inspiration for this timeless story right within his family. Johnny Sylvester was his father’s uncle, and Andrew first heard the story directly from his own father. It’s a classic tale of a sick boy, Johnny Sylvester, and The Babe promising him to hit a homer for him during the 1926 World Series. There is the Hollywood version of this legendary story, and there is the unembellished version which is still amazing. And this is what Andrew Lilley, Founder and CEO of Loose Gravel Films, has portrayed so well in his documentary. The tale of Johnny Sylvester also has a Jersey Shore connection. While at a rented house in Bay Head, NJ during the summer of 1926, Sylvester was horseback riding when he was thrown to the ground along with his horse. The horse tried to stand and kicked Sylvester’s head. The injury progressed and by Sept he was diagnosed with osteomyelitis in his skull. And exactly how did The Babe get involved in all this? We’ll have Andrew explain this part of the story, as well as why he decided to make this particular film and what was the experience like for him. This interview is Part 1 in a series on NJ filmmakers. After the interview, please check out After Hours at Jersey Coastal Live for additional information.

Bruce Sallan - Author - A Dad’s Point-of-View
“Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance” are words from Bruce Sallan’s favorite movie, Singin’ In The Rain. The passion and excitement they evoke struck him to the core while he was taking a college film course taught by critic Manny Farber (author of the seminal book, “American Cinema.”). Later, you could say he felt “I Gotta Write.”
A few years later, Bruce was fortunate to get an internship with a television producer, while earning his M.B.A. from UCLA. What followed was an award-winning television executive and producing career.
Bruce’s focus is primarily on parenting issues from the dad’s point-of-view, though often the situations are gender-neutral. Yet, just as often they’re not. It is his contention that the dad’s point-of-view is less “heard” yet equally valuable to parents. His subject matter covers parenting situations he has experienced, but especially the ones that he believes are relevant to a great number of parents. That includes single parenting, divorce issues, dating as a single parent, step-parent issues, dealing with teens, drug and alcohol issues with teens, money issues, and sometimes just general issues about gender differences. His Men vs. Women blog series has become quite a hit and may be the impetus for his third book. A compilation of his first 100 blogs was the basis of Sallan’s first book, A Dad’s Point-of-View: We ARE Half the Equation

Your Home - is not an Investment !
The Wealth DNA radio show is dedicated to helping you increase your wealth, and to educating and informing investors. As a part of our series on Alternative Investments we need to cover another important topic related to Real Estate investing - your home.
You may have heard realtors say "the biggest investment most people will ever make - is their home"? This is not true – but does show you how most realtors earn their money. During the shows we did on direct investment in real estate we shared the healthy returns being made today in real estate. Are we now suggesting you should rent your home rather than owning it? Everyone needs to live somewhere – doesn't it make more sense to own your home? Wealthy people, who know something about investing, have the biggest and most expensive homes don't they?
