Booker T. Washington was the most famous black man in America between 1895 and 1915. He was also considered the most influential black educator of the late 19th and early 20th centuries insofar as he controlled the flow of funds to black schools and colleges.
Invited to speak at the 1895 Cotton States and International Exposition in Atlanta, Washington publicly accepted disfranchisement and social segregation as long as whites would allow black economic progress, educational opportunity, and justice in the courts.
"The wisest of my race understand that the agitation of questions of social equality is the extremest folly and that progress in the enjoyment of all the privileges that will come to us must be the result of severe and constant struggle rather than artificial forcing. The opportunity to earn a dollar in a factory just now is worth infinitely more than to spend a dollar in an opera house."

I had the honor and pleasure of enjoying a wonderful conversation with author Paulette Davis-Horton, creator of the book "Death in 60 Days: Who Silenced Booker T. Washington?" - A Nurse's View
When I thought about how Booker T. Washington died when she posed the question to me, I, like so many others before me, didn't have a clue! This made me understand how important the work of Ms. Davis-Horton was as she took the time to tediously research this mystery by taking the time to pound the pavement to interview older Pastors and relevant connected people who could have shed any light on what really happened to Booker T. Washington in his last hours here on this earth.
After listening to the process in which she discovered what happened to this great man, you will realize the irony in the saying that "The Truth Is Always Stranger Than Fiction!"

I'm off to Washington DC for the upcoming 4th of July weekend, so in addition to seeing the fireworks and visiting the Smithsonian, I may check out some of the haunted locales in town. I did a show awhile back on this topic, but there are so many supposedly haunted locations in DC that the previous show didn't cover them all! From the slave markets to Congress, there are plenty of weird places to check out. Tonight I'll be talking about a few of them!
In a laid back lazy Sunday afternoon conversation at the Scurv Sanctuary, we shared a wonderful conversation about actor Denzel Washington which started with his outstanding role in the movie "Flight" which focused on his character's fight with drug and alcohol addiction as well as his denial to face the fact that he had a huge problem.
We spoke on how society has evolved for the worst and where we stand as a people in the year 2014.
Interesting exchange indeed and we would love to hear your feedback, thoughts and comments to continue such an important dialogue.
