As an increasing number of communities begin seriously exploring options for a community broadband network, it seems municipal bonds are once again being considered as a serious funding option. This year's survey of economic development pros reveals that just over half feel their communities could successfully launch a bond measure, or that their chances for success are 50/50.
Three factors lead to the success of issuing muni bonds to fund community broadband networks:
the political will
successful navigation of the legal processes
assembling the right financial resources
David Shaw, Chief of the Government & Utilities industry section of Kirton-McConkie law firm and Laura Lewis, Principal at municipal financial advisory firm Lewis, Young, Robertson & Burningham, Inc., walks listeners through these three criteria in layperson's language to help stakeholders navigate these tricky waters. Both have experience working with bond efforts for cities across the U.S.
Helping Iowa and Colorado communities better assess all of their funding options for network projects, including a bond strategy, is a main component of the special 5-week broadband strategy Webinar series led by Gigabit Nation host Craig Settles.

As “secret agents” go, it seems to me, James Bond will always be considered the most recognizable in modern cinema. I’ve often wondered if author Ian Fleming somehow knew, his brand of espionage thriller, would be so successful on film. In this first of three “Bond” broadcasts, we’ll discuss “James Bond” and the actors who have played him. The second installment will focus on the “Woman”, and the third on the “Music”; both elements helped in the making of this movie franchise’s mystique.
It is a welcome back to author Mike Bond to a Book and a Chat.
MIKE BOND has been called the “master of the existential thriller” by the BBC and “one of the 21st century’s most exciting authors” by the Washington Times. He is a bestselling novelist, environmental activist, international energy expert, war and human rights correspondent and award-winning poet who has lived and worked in many remote, dangerous parts of the world. His critically acclaimed novels depict the innate hunger of the human heart for what is good, the intense joys of love, the terror and fury of battle, the sinister vagaries of international politics and multinational corporations, and the beauty of the vanishing natural world.
he will be with us to chat about his latest book THE LAST SAVANNA which is based on his real-life experiences helping to fight elephant poachers in Africa.
James Lamb is President of the Association of Independent Property Brokers and Agents (AIPBA) and a former New York State Department of Transportation Motor Carrier Investigator.
Included in the Highway Bill, known as MAP-21 that was passed in 2012, is the act to raise the broker bond to $75,000. James Lamb has been fighting the act since day one.
Mr. Lamb submitted a 10-page exemption request to the FMCSA that would relieve all property brokers and freight forwarders from the $75,000 bond provision within the trucking industry.
The FMCSA accepted comments to the request which recently ended on January 26, 2014 and the AIPBA continues its work to have the bond repealed. Will the FMCSA override the requirement in accordance with their lawful exemption authority duly granted to them by Congress?
Mr. Lamb joins us as our special guest to share their accomplishments and to bring us all up-to-date on the broker bond issue.

What is the difference between cutting the psychic cords and dissolving the toxic bond? Nothing really. It is a different perspective and another way of understanding the energetic connection when it takes a dark or negative turn.
We bond with each other through love, a connection that includes fondness, respect, empathy, caring, concern and other “love like qualities.” But when fear creeps in there is a need to control, to be in control, to avoid being hurt, to avoid feeling uncomfortable by invoking those emotional charges that don’t feel very good. The more reactive one becomes to those feelings of fear and discomfort the more toxic the relationships becomes. We then become corded to the other through a toxic connection.
How do you dissolve these kinds of toxic connections? Tune in to find out.
