Join me on this special episode of Own Your Life as we reflect and remember the Boston Marathon Bombing of 2013. Special guest callers will include runners from last year's race, Becca Pizzi and Ken Doucette. Rick Pizzi of Pizzi Farms in Waltham, Mass will be joining the discussion. What lessons have we learned in the years that followed? We will discuss the resilient nature of the people of Boston and how this tragedy brought a community and a nation together to become Boston Strong. We will also discuss the impact of the bombings on security measures at different venues. We will describe how people can be aware of their surroundings during large events. I will also give some of my reflections from my crisis response to Boston during the bombings.
On July 7th in 2005, England was attacked by shaheeds in a most horrific manner. Today, we remember.
Thank you to Geoff Mitchell of the EDL for joining the program.
It's not exactly "When Harry Met Sally," but I thought you'd enjoy a snippet of our first interview/encounter from September of 2013, while Tim continues to enjoy a well deserved vacation.

When Terrorism Comes To YOUR Backyard When the two bombs blew my city apart at 2:50 pm on April 15, 2013, I was leading my group on the Cultural Caribbean Cruise that had been planned for more than a year. We had just docked in San Juan, Puerto Rico and I was able to turn my phone back on and check my email massages. As I finished that task and prepared to get off the ship to enjoy parts of the island, my phone rang. It was my childhood friend, Denise Gray Felder, calling in a panic. “Carole! Where are you? Are you and Michelle safe?” How close are you to the explosion that just happened at the finish line of the Boston Marathon?”
I thanked my friend for calling and reassured her that we were thousands of miles away from the scene of the amazing event. I collected my thoughts, wiped the shock off my face, and desperately searched the internet for more information on this breaking story. I had just sent off unrelated emails to friends and colleagues and learned that one friend had just handed the award to the winning female marathon runner more than half an hour before the first bomb exploded.
I took this terrorist act PERSONALLY. These two demonic young monsters tried to destroy MY city.
And as the chair of the Multicultural Committee of the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau, I took these bombings PERSONALLY. Our committee and our Bureau have worked for nearly 20 years to eradicate the stigma of racial hostility that still lingers with some people. This incident was a personal affront to all of the efforts of our committee and Bureau. I was concerned that it would further hurt the Boston brand and keep diverse conventions, conferences, meetings and family reunions away from our city.
Join me in today’s program and learn why Boston is MY city...a Boston Strong city.

Welcome to the Red Fox with your Host, Kel Fritzi. As my listeners know, I am rather passionate, and sometimes I forget to reign myself in. But, I believe in what I do and am proud of it, as I can look future generations in the eye and say I did something…

By now it should be no secret that every time there’s a national disaster or “tragedy”, the government/news will withhold key details, as well as blatantly lie and alter the truth to fit their agenda. After a week and a half of classic rebroadcasts, “The Dedan Tolbert Show” returns LIVE tonight at 9:00pm EST to discuss the TRUTH behind the Boston Bombings, where we’ll reveal hidden information about the suspects that will never be heard on CNN or any other form of mainstream media. Listen LIVE by calling 646 200 0366 or online worldwide at www.dedantolbertshow.com
This week, Roundtable with Stephanie Robinson takes on the Boston Marathon Bombings and the age-old question of security vs. liberty. At the Roundtable are Juliette Kayyem, columnist for the Boston Globe and a mainstay on CNN throughout its coverage of the events; Senator for Massachusetts William “Mo” Cowan; Eric Hauser, democratic strategist and owner of the progressive communications firm, the Hauser Group; and Harvard Law Professor Ronald Sullivan.
Is there really such a thing as national security? What are our privacy rights as we grapple with the threat of domestic terror? Did the incident leave public officials wishing for some absent tool of government to improve safety now or in the future?
Roundtable guests take on these questions and more, all while listeners ask questions and share their experiences about the bombing and its aftermath. Time to gather at the Roundtable as Stephanie Robinson leads the discussion on hot topics, deep talk and a little bit of uplift. Roundtable with Stephanie Robinson...pull up a chair.
Home of the brave? That's how the song goes but now how we live.
Certainly since 9/11, we have largely done as we are told. TSA agents fairly strip and humiliate us per air trip, all without reason or evidence they keep anything safe. Police forces from the tiniest towns load up on military surplus murder machinery way out of proportion to any past or predictable threats. Local cops have swung from serve and protect to badger, bully and brutalize.
More astonishing even is how many allegedly brace Americans call for or demand obeisance to out-of-control police. Check out the comments in even allegedly left-leaning rags on Darren Wilson and Michael Brown. Most comments are along the line of Brown deserved everything he got (even 12 bullets because he may not have blindly obeyed Wilson immediately.
That's not the America we boomers grew up in or the one our parents fought World War II to save.
Let's talk about what has happened to our nation that has led us to blindly submit to irrational and out-of-control authority figures. Are we at a point where most of us would cede our Bill of Rights so we don't have to make decisions or stand up for our country or ourselves?
Will the United States become a nation of sheep? Will those who refuse to be brave and be rational be cowed by tgise who want paternal figures to tell them how to act and what to think?
Here in Boston we had a strong hint of this after the Marathon bombings. The commonwealth and several cities ordered us to shelter-in-place. That is stay inside, hide, give up your liberties, do as you are told. That's not it.
