Deepertruth: The Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Dominic

    in Religion

In the year 1214 Saint Dominic, the founder of the Order of Preachers, was in anguish because he was failing in his attempt to convert the Albigensian Cathar heretics. St. Dominic attributed this to the deepness and gravity of sinfulness of the heretics and the poor example of Catholics. He went alone in to the forest and wept and prayed continuously for three days to appease the anger of Almighty God. He flogged his body and scourged his flesh. From the fasting, pain, and exhaustion, he passed in to a coma.

St. Dominic experienced an apparition of Blessed Mother Mary while in the coma, which forever links Saint Dominic and the Rosary. The Immaculate Mary with three angels appeared and asked St. Dominic, “Dear Dominic, do you know which weapon the Blessed Trinity wants to use to reform the world?” Dominic’s response was Blessed Mary knew better than he because she is a part of our salvation.

Mary responded, “I want you to know that, in this kind of warfare, the battering ram has always been the Angelic Psalter* which is the foundation stone of the New Testament. Therefore if you want to reach these hardened souls and win them over to God, preach my Psalter.”

St. Columba - Patron of Derry, floods, bookbinders, poets, Ireland, Scotland. St. Columba 521-597, Born probaly in Donegal Ireland of royal descent he studied at Moville under St. Finnian then in Leinster at the monastery of Clonard under another St. Finnian. He was ordained before he was twenty-five and spent the next fifteen years preaching and setting up foundations at Derry, Durrow, and Kells. Possibly because of a family feud which resulted in the death of 3000 and for which he considered himself partly responsible he left Ireland at 42 and landed on the island of Iona off the coast of Scotland. There he built the monastery which was to become world famous. With SS Canice and Comgall he spread the gospel to the Picts; he also developed a monastic rule which many followed until the introduction of St. Benedicts. He died on Iona and is also known as Colm, Colum and Columcille. Feast day is June 9.

    St Louis 2015 Family Runion

    in Culture

“The history of our families is entwined just as a piece of cloth is woven. Our parents and fore parents were all bound together by birth families and marriage into others, but we are all bound by bloodlines that make us all related to one another. These families all lived in towns and communities that surround each other. Some of the town names are Warren, Banks, Pleasant Hill, Gravel Ridge, Childs, Green Chapel, Hard Shell, Jersey, Hermitage, Johnsville, Morobay, Palestine, Mt. Olive, Vicks, Hampton, and Harrell. Some of the names of families who lived in those communities are Hampton, Davis, Belin, Hall, Tatum, Johnson, Lovett, Strong, Wilson, Pickett, Webbs, Phifer, Fall, Green, Momon, Trotter, Newton, Wheeler, Jones, Henry, Harmon, Childs, Woods, Boswells, and Gardner.“  Kathleen Hampton-Lee (from her Histories of Families 1800-1992 in the 1992 Milwaukee, WI Family Reunion)
