USING GRAPHIC NOVELS AS EFFECTIVE CLASSROOM TEACHING TOOLS
Last time we did a show on Graphic Novel use, it got tremendous listener-ship. I expect the same with this one . Dr Katie Monin from the University of North Florida and author of several books on the subject is joined by Nader Qaimari,Follett School Solutions Sr VP of Content Services and Solutions
You've read the book. You’ve seen the movie. Now, join the conversation as the Sweatpants & Coffee book club, hosted by Richard Simms, takes on the most buzzed about novel of the past few years. What is it about Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl that elevated it from a decent thriller to a literary sensation. Why did the book’s ending upset so many readers? And did the book manage to make the leap to the big screen in tact? We’ll discuss all this and more during this week’s Sweatpants & Novels podcast. Join the conversation by calling in... and consider having a favorite quote/passage from the book to share with your fellow members!
Sweatpants & Novels invites you to slip into something comfy, pour a cup of coffee (or someting stronger!) and join host Richard M. Simms as he chats with Kathryn O'Sullivan, author of this month's read, Murder On The Hoof. The author -- whose third book, Neighing With Fire is set to come out this spring -- will share with us how she comes up with her delightfully devilish plots, why she chose to set the series in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and exactly how she manages to find time to write inbetween teaching and working on her award-winning Web series, THURSTON! Got questions? Give us a call. Otherwise, sit back, saddle up and enjoy the ride!
Patricia K McCarthy is Ottawa’s fang queen. Her Crimson series of vampire novels tell the unconventional love story of Samuel and Magdalene Crimson, and are part-blood bath and part-bubble bath. Her writing teases readers to make it to the end of each chapter alive. Patricia was riding the vampire wave before there was one, which accounts for her flirtation with the dark art of satire. Read her Crimson series and you may never feel the same again as you walk the streets of Ottawa when the sun goes down.
As an indie publisher, Patricia’s knowledge of the business has been honed over the past fifteen years. Her interest in writing showed itself at six years of age. She has attended workshops on the fundamentals of writing, editing, and promotion, as well as having published three collections of passionate erotic poetry. Her work has been published in the U.K., Canada, and the U.S. In the beginning, her poetry evolved to short vampire stories and these in turn inspired her to begin the Crimson vampire series, which represents the last decade of her writing accomplishments. In between writing novels, she crafts short stories and works in Ottawa. Her work has received extensive publicity in Ottawa and elsewhere; copies of her media interviews can be read online. (See her website for details.)
Patricia divides her time between writing and work, coaching new authors, making appearances at fantasy fairs and exhibitions as well as holding workshops on Writing Fantasy Fiction.
