NASCAR: Is Ryan Blaney the Next Superstar? F1: Will McLaren Come Clean?

    in Sports

At 9:00 PM Tonight, 12/10/2014, Join Michele Rahal, Bill Marlowe and Gene Boyer for a one hour race around the auto racing issues of the week. Unfiletered, unbiased and completely unafraid to tell it like we think it is.

Ryan Blaney hasn't gotten the press that Chase Elliott has, but from all indicators he's at that potential superstar level. Ford has taken a strong interest in him as has Penske. What's the latest news on the Woods Brothers and Penske? What is happening to Roush Racing? Could there be a buyer in the wings with a familiar name? Do the fans understand the tire testing rules and the selection of the teams that test them?

In Formula One a co-driver is about to be announced to partner Fernando Alonso at McLaren, that is unless Alonso has gotten cold feet over the Honda failure at the AbuDhabi tests. Has Ron Dennis lost his battle to take over McLarens shares from his partners? Is that the reason the drivers and sponsor announcements have taken so long? In IMSA Prototypes have the Europeans gotten the message and developed an infrastructure to sell and maintain their new LMP2 Prototypes before the 2016 changeover? It appears they have with Krohn Racing taking delivery of the new cars as well as Ligier moving onto the scene along with Honda.

Talking in Circles: Pocono Review; Ryan Blaney Rumor

    in Sports

On tonight's episode of Talking in Circles we review the GoBowling.com 400 @ Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr wins his 22nd career race, and third of the 2014, while completing the season sweep at Pocono. He's the first driver to sweep Pocono since Denny Hamlin in 2006.

Jeff Gordon had the car to beat all day long, but lost the handling of his racecar on the final run of the race, while the car was in traffic, and it cost him the victory.

The big one? At Pocono? A 13 car wreck that was triggered when Denny Hamlin spun, in a chain reaction crash. It cost people a lot of good days. We'll discuss that as well.

Jimmie Johnson had a day to forget in Pocono as he crashed twice. What's this mean for his season?

    And finally,

We may have an answer to the question of who will be taking Trevor Bayne's seat at the Wood Brothers Racing team. Ryan Blaney could be the man, according to Lee Spencer. We'll discuss what this move means for the Wood Brothers, and Ford in general.

The View Up Here and Heather Marsh talk 21st Century torture and Omar Khadr

    in Politics

There was a time when Canada stood for something the world over. Honest Broker. Champion of the Underdog. Defender of Human Rights. Peacekeeper. In the last fifteen years, that description exists in fiction (or Government statement) only.

Jean Chretien. Wayne Easter. John Manley. Anne MacLellan. Paul Martin. Stephen Harper. Vic Toews. Steven Blaney. Peter MacKay. These Canadians are widely known. They have all been members of Cabinet and Government. They all have something they are responsible for in the Canada we have today. This Canada is not the one mentioned at the top of this page. The "modern" Canada lies, cheats, omits, ignores, breaks its own Constitution, passes oppressive laws and insists it is righteous.

Abdullah Almalki. Ahmad El-Maati. Muayyed Nureddin. Abousfian Abdelrazik. Maher Arar. Omar Khadr. These Canadians are not known in the same manner. These Canadians have been illegally tortured, detained, imprisoned, been victims of rendition, had their lives and their families lives destroyed, and had their rights ignored by their Government. All but one has "escaped" the system. That one is Omar Khadr.

Heather Marsh is the author of "Binding Chaos: Mass collaboration on a global scale", a book that sees what ails us and proposes a new way. A tenacious researcher, a premier tweeter (@GeorgieBC), and acknowledged expert on the case of Omar Khadr. This legal battle may change Canada and its precedents.

There is no other issue that is more un-Canadian that I can name than that of Omar Khadr. Captured at 15, tortured, imprisoned, punished by military tribunal at Gitmo, and still in prison at the age of 27 in Canada. Never criminally convicted or tried. Visit www.freeomar.ca for the complete picture.

I invite you to listen to Heather as we go through this miscarriage of procedure, standards and justice. The state must be held to account. For all Canadians.

Topically Yours - The Duprees Tony Testa

    in Entertainment

Deardra Shuler interviews Tony Testa of The Duprees who will be performing as part of a Doo Wop show at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts in the Bronx, NY. on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 8:00 pm.  Other groups featured to appear with the Duprees are The Platters, The Belmonts, Barbara Harris & The Toys, Larry Chance & The Earls and Ragdoll.

The Duprees were formed in the early 1960’s in Jersey City, NJ by five William L. Dickinson High School students. They were discovered by big band leader George Paxton who combined their smooth doo-wop vocal harmonies with a big band backing on their first single, a cover of Jo Stafford’s “You Belong To Me”, which was an instant top-ten hit and million-seller. Thus the sound of the Duprees was born and hits in the same format kept coming throughout the 1960s including “My Own True Love,” “Take Me As I Am,” “Why Don't You Believe Me,” “Have You Heard,” “Love Eyes,” “It Isn't Fair” and “Let Them Talk.” Over the years, various members of the band have come and gone, but their unique mixture of doo-wop vocals with big band arrangements has remained.

Along with Tony Testa, Jimmy Spinelli, Tommy Petillo, and Phil Granito make up the rest of the current group. Original member Michael Kelly left the group in 2012.  The other 3 original members, Joe Santollo, Joey (Canzano) Vann and Michael J Arnone passed.

In 2006, the original Duprees were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.

Lehman Center for the Performing Arts is located on the Lehman College campus, located at 250 Bedford Park Boulevard West, Bronx, NY 10468. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Lehman Center box office at 718-960-8833 or online at www.LehmanCenter.org.

The Race Trim MotorSports Hour #10

    in Sports

Uncle Mark & Branson have geared up in the Frat House Sports garage ready to discuss the end of the NASCAR season, and other motorsports…AND you can chime in as well!

The Super Bowl of NASCAR is set to take place this Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway! Roadside brawls, surprising cuts to the drivers competing for the championship and a new Chase format has everyone fired up!

The end of the race at Phoenix International Raceway led to 4 more cuts, with Kevin Harvick, Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano and Ryan Newman advancing to the Championship. It was a move of sheer desperation that led winless driver Ryan Newman to make a last lap dash to claim an 11th place finish and make it into the Chase. This surprising, late addition of Ryan Newman to the next level leads many wondering if he could become the next underdog champion. While this is not the first time that the sport has seen a winless driver advance into the Chase, this could be the first time in the history of the sport that a winless driver actually becomes crowned champion.

In other motorsports news, Chase Elliot broke records becoming the youngest and first Rookie of the Year to become the Nationwide Series Champion. In 2015, this series takes on a new name, after new title sponsor, Infinity.

Inside the trucks, Matt Crafton seeks to become the first 2-time Champion in the Camping World Truck Series. Will he be able to repeat? Or will 2nd place driver Ryan Blaney and 3rd place driver Darrell “Bubba” Wallace interfere?

The NHRA season is also winding down, and the guys got an update on that Countdown to the Championship plus final NASCAR race fantasy roster recommendations with Sidekick’s picks!

They've got the coffee. You bring the donuts and bring enough for the guys parked right now over in the "Frat House Sports Garage" . . . oh, and be sure to give them a call at 347 - 826 - 9964!
