Black Geeks Review: The Hunger Games 3 - Mockingjay Part I

    in Movies

Ish just got real.  This week the Black Geeks review the 3rd installment in The Hunger Games franchise, "Mockingjay - Part 1", directed by Francis Lawrence.  It's all out war for Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss Everdeen as she becomes the official symbol of the Districts' rebellion against The Capitol. Featuring a very strong supporting cast, including the late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman, Mockingjay-Part 1 is a bona fide action flick replete with explosions, psuedo-military combat jargon, and a very high body count.  Tune in today at 3:30 and find out if this is worth your $16 or you should wait till it's streaming on Netflix in 3 months.

    Black Geeks Review: Snowpiercer

    in Movies

This week we review "Snowpiercer" starring Chris Evans and Tilda Swinton. From wikipedia:

An experiment to counteract global warming causes an ice age that kills nearly all life on Earth. The only survivors are the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a massive train, powered by a perpetual-motion engine, that travels on a globe-spanning track. A class system is installed, with the elites inhabiting the front of the train and poor inhabiting the tail.

Tune in this Sunday at 3:30 PM PST to find out if you should be watching this instead of the 25th installment of big robots fighting each other.

    Black Geeks Review: The Rover

    in Movies

This week, the Black Geeks review "The Rover" directed by Aussie auteur David Michod.  "The Rover" is the story of one unnamed man's desperate attempt to track his stolen car through the Australian outback in a dystopian near future.  Along the way, the man, played by a terrifying Guy Pearce, meets a disparate assemblage of unsettling characters all just as desperate as him.  His relationship with Rey, an almost unrecognizable Robert Pattinson, begins as a hostile alliance and develops into something much more.  The film culminates in a surprising and touching end. This is not George Miller territory though the comparisons seem unavoidable. Tune in to find out if you need to see this movie in the theatres RIGHT NOW, or if you can just pop in your copy of Mad Max and call it a night.

    Black Geeks Review: Godzilla

    in Movies

This week the Black Geeks review "Godzilla" starring...well, see title. 'Cus let's face it, nobody's going to see this for the actors. Well maybe that Breaking Bad guy will deliver some human fun, but really it's all about the CGI monster. Tune in to find out if the filmmakers have successfully done something fun and new, or if the 50 some odd movies preceding this one were enough.

Black Geeks Review: Guardians of the Galaxy

    in Movies

This week we review "Guardians of the Galaxy" starring everyone. Seriously - you may not recognize them because of the extensive make-up, but it's like a full 3rd of Hollywood in this thing.  Written & directed by James Gunn, the movie which is based on one of the lesser known comic books, has already gotten the green light for a sequel in 2017. Tune in to find out if it will go down in the history books as one of the best scifi/fantasy movies EVER, or if it should be burned and have it's ashes tossed into the darkest reaches of space.
