Black Thoughts and Theory: The Radio Show-How Do You Discipline Your Children?

    in Culture

Do you believe in spanking your child or are you a time-out kind of parent? Is it okay to discipline your child in public or should you wait till you get home? How far is too far?

Join Asha Zuri? and Alex Primo? Thursday at 9 pm EST as we explore parenting and discipline in the Black community. Do we spank too much or are we too relaxed in the discipline department? What do we need to do to get our children straight?

Here's some opinions courtesy of the Huffington Post to get things started:

"I still believe 'spare the rod, spoil the child!' Know your child and what 'works' with him/her." -- Yolanda C.
"I'm not going to let the justice system reprimand my child, I'll do it myself, thank you very much." -- Pas Jb
"Stop the violence!" -- Roxy N. Melody D.
"There's a difference between a beating and a whoopin! I whooped my kids, I never beat them. And I'd do it again!" -- Margo M.
"When did the 'rod' become a belt or switch? Oh, during slavery when blacks were beat with whips. As we have progressed in society, we know more, and can understand child development better." -- Timmie J. W. Jr.
"Was Dr. King beaten? What did he become? Was he a peaceful man or was he angry?" -- Samuel S.

Melanated Woman: Socialization and Raising Our Black Children

    in Culture

Socialization is the process by which children and adults learn from others. We begin learning from others during the early days of life; and most people continue their social learning all through life (unless some mental or physical disability slows or stops the learning process). -

Who have we learned from for over 400 years?  What do we know about ourselves?  Who have we been trained to be? Who will our children and grandchildren become.

As  Africans, must re-educate ourselves, cast aside the corrupt programming and prepare to properly educate future generations.

Remember, the education of an African child starts in the home.

PT 2 OF 2015 STATE OF BLACK AMERICA: WHO IS EDUCATING OUR CHILDREN ?

    in Culture

PT 2 OF THE STATE OF BLACK AMERICA: WHO IS EDUCATING OUR CHILDREN ? ASK THE QUESTION OF DO WE REPLY ON TO MANY OUTSIDE FORCES TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE EDUCATION OF OUR CHILDREN OR IS IT OUR DUTY AS PARENTS TO SIT DOWN AND TEACH OUR CHILDREN NOT ONLY MORAL THIINGS BUT AS TO TEACH THEM THE BASICS OF ABC, MATH, SCIENCE, ENGLISH, AND PH. ED. THE DROPOUT RATE IS VERY HIGH AMONGS YOUNG BLACK YOUTH, YET THE NUMBERS SAY THAT MORE ARE GOING TO SCHOOL BY A VERY SMALL MARGIN WHEN AT LARGE WE ARE STILL IN BAD SHAPE WHEN WE LOOK AT HOW MANY OF OF OUR YOUNG PEOPLE BEING LOCKED UP AND OUR DAUGHTERS BEING TURNED OUT.

PT 2 OF THE STATE OF BLACK AMERICA: WILL GIVE YOU THE NUMBERS AND LET YOU DECIDE WHAT SHOULD WE DO TO IMPROVE THE AWARENESS OF OUR YOUTH ON THE  IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATION IN TODAYS WORLD?  BESIDES HISPANICS, BLACK YOUTH ARE SO FAR BEHIND IN EDUCATION THE BOARD CAN NEVER LEVEL OUT TO BE EQUAL.
