Join us this week as we welcome pop music singer songwriter, Beth Spangler. In a pop-culture/singles driven industry, where talent is often manufactured and superseded by marketing strategies, Beth Spangler is among the new generation of singers restoring the "art" in recording artist. Born in the small town of Pearisburg, VA, Beth was raised in a family of talented singers and musicians, and whereas singing was nothing new to her, her talent quickly stood out. Her soulful vocal ability blends urban and pop with a general mass appeal. The cute-as-a-button girl with the little country girl speaking voice would often shock those who heard her sing with her clean runs and power-vocal ability. Beth recently appeared in in season 7 of NBC's hit tv show "The Voice" as a member of Team Gwen (Gwen Stefani). As her music career shows strong signs of taking off, it's worth mentioning that she’s also the Senior Radiographer for the Children’s Hospital of Georgia. How can you not get behind this new rising artist? We will talk to Beth about her upcoming schedule, get a behind the scenes look at her music, feature her latest songs, and ask her to share her message for the troops. Please be sure to visit Beth Spangler at http://www.bethspangler.com/ and spread the word. Fans are welcome to call in and speak live with with Beth during the show (718) 766-4193. This week Laurie Beth is interviewed about her new book, "The Contessa Chronicles". While this is Laurie's latest book to be released, it is one that she has carried in her heart for many years. It springs from pondering the many scriptures that don’t resonate with modern times and understanding. From questions that are raised and then left unanswered. As a nun once asked in Berkeley, “Is God really just an old man, a young man, and a bird?” Why are women so easily erased and condemned in scripture? Why are the Wisdom passages so overlooked? Why is the Holy Spirit, presented as a feminine noun in Hebrew, so quickly reassigned a new gender in subsequent translations, leading to a male dominated culture in religion that belies common sense, as well as demographics?
Meanwhile, where’s the fun? The joy? The vibrancy that exists in life and yet seems almost non existent in the stories we are told about God?
Ultimately, Laurie Beth has come to believe two major things. One is that the Bible is a Love Story, largely of unrequited love. Two. That Jesus was a family man in the very largest sense. He spoke constantly about the love he had for his father. He called us his brothers and sisters. With his dying breath he asked that his mother be loved and cared for after he was gone. He invited us to come home with him, and feast at the banquet table. He said he would send the Holy Spirit to finish the work he started.
And even in Revelations, “The Spirit and the Bride say ‘Come.’” The very real possibility of a wedding exists, even though Armageddon has gotten a lot more air time.
And so we present to you, The Contessa Chronicles. A new imagining of how it might have been, and maybe even, really is, if we are open to tasting some new wine, and are willing to saddle up our own horses for the ride.
Laurie Beth welcomes to the show David Tuccaro, Jr. a Mikisew Cree First Nation who overcame his fight with Leukemia. His story is recounted in the book, Bad To The Bone, which has hit #17 on Amazon's Best Seller's list within one month of being released. He shares his tumultuous journey of self-discovery through pain, hopelessness and the feeling of inadequacy to inspire others to overcome adversity. It is a story of perseverance and hope that inspires you to have hope when there seems to be none present. David is now living out his passion of teaching others to save lives by registering to become a bone marrow donw. He spends his free time with his family and enjoying music.
