January Jones welcomes Bernie Siegel, M. D.

    in Parents

    January Jones - Bernie Siegel, M. D.

For many, Dr. Bernard Siegel—or Bernie, as he prefers to be called—needs no introduction. He has touched many lives all over the Planet. In 1978, he reached a national and then international audience when he began talking about patient empowerment and the choice to live fully and die in peace. As a physician who has cared for and counseled innumerable people whose mortality has been threatened by illness, Bernie embraces a philosophy of living and dying that stands at the forefront of the medical ethics and spiritual issues our Society grapples with today. In May 2011, Bernie was honored by the Watkins Review of London, England, as one of the Top 20 Spiritually Influential Living People on the Planet. He continues to break new ground in the field of healing, supporting changes in medical education to “humanize” medical practice.

Bernie was born in Brooklyn, NY, and attended Colgate University and Cornell University Medical College. He graduated with honors and holds membership in two scholastic honor societies, Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha. He trained to become a surgeon at Yale New Haven Hospital, West Haven Veteran’s Hospital and the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. In 1989, Bernie retired from Yale as an Assistant Clinical Professor of General and Pediatric Surgery to speak to patients, their families and caregivers.

Fathers of Conscience with Bernie D. Jones, PhD., JD

    in History

    Fathers of Conscience
Mixed-Race Inheritance in the Antebellum South

Join Author Bernie D. Jones for an engaging discussion about her book - Fathers of Conscience - Mixed-Race Inheritance in the Antebellum South.

Fathers of Conscience examines high-court decisions in the antebellum South that involved wills in which white male planters bequeathed property, freedom, or both to women of color and their mixed-race children. These men, whose wills were contested by their white relatives, had used trusts and estates law to give their slave partners and children official recognition and thus circumvent the law of slavery. The will contests that followed determined whether that elevated status would be approved or denied by courts of law.

Jones is Associate Professor, Suffolk University Law School.  She is a graduate of the New York University Law School and the University of Virginia Department of History.

Politics Done Right - Bernie Sanders using Obama 2008 playbook to beat Hillary?

    in Politics

Afew nights ago Bernie Sanders had house parties throughout the country. Over 100,000 people signed up. I went to one in the role of a blogger and was blown away by the group of people attending. Bernie Sanders has been accused of having supporters that do not reflect the demographics of America. It seems like the Black Lives Matter protest at Netroots Nation 2015 has completely changed the character of his campaign operation.

This particular Bernie Sanders house party did not only reflect America, it reflected Houston, it reflected Texas. Moreover the stream beamed into homes throughout the country was also very diverse. Bernie Sanders has not changed his message. He enhanced it. He made it more reflective. He made it more inclusive.

Currently the polls still show Hillary Clinton with a substantial lead. It also shows Bernie Sanders constantly chipping away. Will there be a real populist vs status quo Democratic Primary after all?

    Is Bernie Sanders Electable?

    in Politics

This week, we'll discuss whether or not Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders can actually win the presidency. We'll cover Hillary Clinton's momentum, what the current polls show, and just how much of an impact Sanders might have on the 2016 election.

In the closing segment, we'll go over why we changed the name of This Week in Dumb to Dumb Shit of the Week, why Donald Trump is a big rich buffoon, and why conservatives are so obsessed with not raising the minimum wage.

    in Family

    Welcome to the Berry Patch!

Berry Patch Friends is a children’s book series written to provide essential life lessons of love and learning for children everywhere.

This is the first book in the new Berry Patch Friends series. I Have a Secret was written to help parents convey the message of “I Love You” to their children, which is lacking in so many homes today. It’s so rewarding as an author, to hear comments back from readers stating that they absolutely love this book. Typical comments are that “It is adorable”, “Oh How Fun” or that “It brought a tear to my eye” and this excites me, realizing that it is connecting with my intended audience. I trust that you will enjoy this book, as well as future books in the series
