Kristin Peterson is a Janesville native and a filmmaker. While she is working on her own short film Dog*Walk, for the past 3 years, Kristin’s been closely involved with Beloit International Film Festival where she works as a programmer and other things. We spoke about what Kristin learned from watching over 3,000 films, the importance of sound, and how we could get Angelina Jolie to work with small independent moviemakers.
Amy Stevens is a professor of special education at UW-Whitewater. Amy stopped in to talk about the work she does in Jamaica where she goes annually to help train local teachers, what she learned from her experience, how great the island nation’s needs are, and how little things from America, can make a huge difference in a one-room school house in Jamaica.

Danez Smith is the winner of a 2014 Ruth Lilly/Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Fellowship from the Poetry Foundation. He is the author of “[insert] boy” (YesYes Books, 2014) & two chapbooks– “black movie” (Button Poetry, 2015), winner of the 2014 Button Poetry Prize, & “hands on ya knees” (Penmanship Books, 2013). He holds fellowships from Cave Canem, VONA, and the McKnight Foundation. His writing has appeared in Poetry, Ploughshares, Beloit Poetry Journal, Narrative & elsewhere. He was featured in The Academy of American Poets’ Emerging Poets Series by Patricia Smith. He is a founding member of the multi-genre, multicultural collective Dark Noise. Danez placed second at the 2014 Individual World Poetry Slam and is the two-time Rustbelt Regional Champion. In 2014, he was the Festival Director for the Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam. He holds a BA from UW-Madison where he was a First Wave Urban Arts Scholar. He lives in Minneapolis, MN.

After an All-American/National Championship (1966) football career at Notre Dame and a Hall of Fame NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings, which included 4 trips to the Super Bowl, Justice Page has served as an Associate Justice with the Minnesota Supreme Court since 1993. A nine-time Pro Bowler, six-time 1 Team All-Pro Selection, and a Multiple NFL Defensive Player of the Year, he also was the NFL MVP in 1971. While still an All-Pro NFL Player, Justice Page earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1978. In 1988, Page and his wife Diane, founded the Page Education Foundation which provides financial and mentoring assistance to students of color as a reward to their volunteer service in the community. The Page Education Foundation has awarded grants to nearly 5,000 students. Justice Page has received nine Honorary Doctorate Degrees from institutions such as Duke University, University of Notre Dame, Gustavus Adolphus College, and University of New Haven which is the home of his college teammate and frequent Real Sports Guys visitor Dr. Allen Sack. During his conversation with the Real Sports Guys, Justice Page discusses why education was so important to him while at Notre Dame, his experience of making four straight Super Bowls, observations of the current amateur athletics system, and the mission of the Page Education Foundation. As part of our continuing “Great Coaches in Great Places” series which highlights great coaching at all levels, Dave DeGeorge, the winningest coach in Beloit College Baseball history, recently visited the Real Sports Guys studio to discuss his team’s 2012 season, which included a conference championship game appearance, and to provide analysis on the College Baseball World Series (CWS) occuring in Omaha. Over the past few seasons, DeGeorge has led the Buccaneers’ to three conference tournament appearance, a division title, a conference title, and an appearance in the 2009 NCAA Tournament. The 2009 & 2011 Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association "Coach of the Year", who recently finished his 22nd season leading the Beloit College Baseball program, also discusses individuals who have influenced his coaching philosophy, how the “showcase” era in amateur baseball has influenced player development, and his recruiting philosophy.
