ENVISION THIS: Peace begins in the hearts, minds, voices, hands, feet and gatherings of the people.
General Eisenhower said, “People, in the long run, are going to do more to promote peace than our governments. Indeed, I think that people want peace so much that one of these days governments had better get out of the way and let them have it”. Well, government, the people are gathering, speaking, singing, dancing, drumming, creating signs, walking, and learning for peace at the BELFAST PEACE FESTIVAL in Maine, Friday evening, September 5 and all day Saturday, September 6. At least on the local level, the government is listening. A Proclamation for a Compassionate City passed by the Belfast City Council will be read on the First Church lawn (rain location in First Church sanctuary) It announces the beginning of a city-wide effort to become a certified City of Compassion.
Our guests today on Envision This! include Neva Allen, festival founder, Deane Perkins, Reverend of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Belfast and event speaker on non-violent communication, and Katia Ancona who is helping to coordinate and promote the event.
There will be children's events. This festival will be a true celebration of peace, with a street dance, pancake breakfast, meditation, labyrinth, sign making, a peace walk led with a large earth drum, many exciting speakers includingVeterans for Peace, a drumming circle, a labyrinth, barbecue lunch and spaghetti dinner, and evening music with Lynne Deeves, prominent Maine Singer. Joining her will be our own Patty Heath and Mandi Thomas. A finale integrating the audience into a peaceful chorus will close this year’s Peace Festival. Folks should go home filled with peace and joy, not fear as the major media would have us.

Based in East Belfast, she is now firmly established as one of the foremost and biggest singers to come out of Northern Ireland. Described as a 'Vocal Force' on stage, she encompasses the fighting spirit of a true powerhouse singer of blues, soul and rock 'n roll. With comparisons to her idol Etta James, Mavis Staples and Janis Joplin, Kaz's live performances are noted for the fun she brings as well as the emotional intensity and for her down to earth attitude. Her song writing skills which have developed over the years spent underground, enable her to write across different genres, and her debut album 'Get Ready' showcases this exciting and eclectic mix of songs that echo her life including the title track 'Get Ready' which offers hope to the community of East Belfast as well as some much needed peace and love.

On July 11, 2012, the world cried over the tragic death of an innocent dog by the name of Lennox. The cruel leaders of Belfast, Northern Irland refused to listen to the voices of millions, including that of their own Prime Minister who ordered the release of the dog that was being accused of being a Pit Bull despite the DNA tests that stated otherwise. Today we are once again raising our voices in rememberance of the sweet dog that endured so much and stole the hearts of those who never gave up. We are encouraging callers to voice their opinions on Breed Specific Legislation or who simply want to express their sorrow.

Elementary school teacher Andy McCarroll may seem a world away in Belfast, Northern Ireland but on that fateful day in Connecticut, Andy felt as if he couldn't be closer.
NWP welcomes Irish singer/songwriter, Andy McCarroll.
I talk with this school teacher from Belfast who is also an accomplished singer and songwriter. Feeling helpless and with a classroom of his own, Andy's compasionate spirit needed to respond.
This school teacher was "called into action" after the Sandy Hook school masacre as well as what he believes other countries around the world perceives as out of control gun laws and wrote a "Masters of War". Andy has a unique perspective on US gun rights. I find it interesting to listen to his thoughts as someone looking at the United States from the outside. Not sure our ideas are the same but I'm willing to listen to his opinions and get an inside look into how the world perceives our 2nd Amendment.
