Chief Mitch Tavera is a life-long south bay resident. He began his career with the El Segundo Police Department in 1978 as a Police Cadet while attending college. He attended the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Academy in 1979 and since then has been promoted from Police Officer to Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain and, as of April 7, 2010, to Chief of Police. During the past thirty plus years, Chief Tavera has had several assignments; these include Criminal Investigator, WESTNET and LAIMPACT Team Leader, US Customs liaison, SWAT Team member, leader and Commander, Patrol and Detective Commander, and Captain over both the Administrative and Field Operations Bureaus. As Chief he has overseen the department for the past five years during which time several programs have been instituted to impact crime and protect the El Segundo community.
This morning, our guests will tell us all about the annual South Bay Medal of Valor Awards & Luncheon which will be held on Wednesday, May 20 at the Torrance Marriot Hotel.
Our returning guests this morning are Bibi Goldstein and Linda Buffington of the South Bay Business Women’s Association.
Bibi Goldstein is the owner of Buying Time, LLC and an active member of the South Bay business community. She is the immediate past President of the South Bay Business Women’s Association and current Chair for the South Bay Women’s Conference. She served as a committee member (2008–2012) and past chair (2011–2012) for Manhattan Beach Women In Business, was past President of the Kiwanis Club of Manhattan Beach and a member of the 2011 class of Leadership Redondo. In addition to co-authoring several books, she is also a contributing writer to Today’s Innovative Woman magazine. Bibi lives in Redondo Beach with her husband Mark and daughter Julie.
Linda Buffington has been on a mission to share the message of health and nutrition for the past 11 years. It is such a change from how she lived her young adult life as most of her meals were from fast-food restaurants or made from pre-packaged foods. Through research and some luck she was led to Juice Plus+, a whole food-based fruit and vegetable supplement. Linda is currently President of the South Bay Business Women’s Association. Not only did Linda grow up in the South Bay, but she also raised her two sons here as well. She believes it is an honor to serve this community and be able to pay it forward from all she received.
This morning, our guests are going to share with us all the details of this year’s South Bay Women’s Conference which takes place on Friday, May 8 at the Torrance Marriott South Bay.
