Babies born out of wedlock to Irish teens were often banished from their birth mother to be raised by another family. The story is portrayed in Philomena. Chicago Tribune writer Bonnie Miller Rubin joins me tomorrow at 10 a.m. to talk about this practice. Also, Mari Steed, of The Philomena Project, and Colleen Anderson, one of the adopted babies. This special edition of "I'm Just Sayin'" begins tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. at blogtalkradio.com/imjustsayin0.
U.S. military veterans are being deported after they serve. Many are being promised citizenship before they enlist then, deported after their service is over. Their children are being affected. Many veterans are disabled after combat service and they cannot get their medical benefits because they are being deported. Join me for this interview of Bertha Gutierrez as she discusses this national shame.
Obama and the GOP have made strange bedfellows in the TPP and TPA negotiations in the U.S. Congress. We would love to talk about the details of the agreement. However, much like Obamacare, we have to pass it first before we can see it. This is ridiculous. Of course, the most burning civil rights issue in the country is whether the cops can manhandle a few teens for disobeying a lawful order when disturbing the peace in a residential neighborhood. WTF??? Talk about a non-issue. Finally we’ll be talking about the heinous fact that Marco Rubio’s wife got some moving violations and he bought a boat WITH HIS OWN MONEY! Talk about a slow news week!

This Thursday is a special episode of Graphic Policy Radio with writer Steve Orlando. Steve is returning to the show to discuss his new series from Image Comics,Virgil!
Undertow and Midnighter writer Steve Orlando and Murder Book artist JD Faith present a brand new, “queersploitation” graphic novel on the streets of Jamaica in,Virgil, in stores this September 2015.
Betrayed, beaten, and banished by his own, an outed cop fights his way across Jamaica for revenge.
This is a Foxy Brown-style revenge action with a new face and new fists. Holding his gun and his badge, Virgil thought he was safe in the police force, hiding who he is. But when his own brothers on the force out him in the papers, it doesn’t bring him down. It sets him free! Now, he’s out for revenge. And he’s not leaving town without his man, and some blood on his hands.
We'll talk to Steve about the upcoming book as well as the Kickstarter that it spun out from.
We also want your questions too! Tweet them to us @graphicpolicy.
Death has always been humanity’s enemy. It brings loneliness, sadness, disorientation. But it need not be a mystery nor be entirely devastating. Even though it is inevitable, death is not the end. Though at times death seems unfair and arbitrary, it does not thwart God’s plan for eternal life. Through a resurrection God will reunite us with family and friends and extend His promises to all who have ever lived. Eventually there will come a time when death itself will be banished. Writing about the resurrection that will take place when Jesus returns, Paul
paraphrased from the book of Hosea: “For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: ‘Death is swallowed up in victory.’ ‘O Death, where is your sting? O Hades [grave] where is your victory?’” (1 Corinthians 15:53-55).
Human beings are notorious for quickly destroying wildlife for the simple reason being that these creatures are either difficult to cohabitate with or are just a nuisance. It is unfortunate that people are so disconnected with nature and do not see how each creature plays an important role that impacts other creatures (human beings included) “Leading scientists working around the globe are learning that these much feared predators may in fact hold a key to life itself. It is the presence or absence of top predators that affects the health of the entire ecosystem.”Lords of Nature The Lords of Nature: Life in a Land of Great Predators, is a captivating documentary which tells the story of a science now discovering top carnivores as revitalizing forces of nature, and of a society now learning tolerance for beasts they once banished. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to Karen Anspacher-Meyer, Executive Director, Green Fire Productions and Craig Miller, Southwest Representative Defenders of Wildlife. We will also discuss the issues with efforts to minimize the protection offered to these species under The Endangered Species Act. Are you an avid gardener or are just learning about gardening? And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [do not offend or vex or sadden Him], by Whom you were sealed (marked, branded as God’s own, secured) for the day of redemption (of final deliverance through Christ from evil and the consequences of sin).
Let all bitterness and indignation and wrath (passion, rage, bad temper) and resentment (anger, animosity) and quarreling (brawling, clamor, contention) and slander (evil-speaking, abusive or blasphemous language) be banished from you, with all malice (spite, ill will, or baseness of any kind).
And become useful and helpful and kind to one another, tenderhearted (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted), forgiving one another [readily and freely], as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4 30-32

SPECIAL TOPIC Night - "Child Abuse, Trauma and 12-Step Recovery" - STEP 1 (and we'll include a bit about TRADITION 1) - SCAN host Bill Murray will be joined by special guest co-host Rivka Edery, MSW, LCSW, from NYC, author of the book “Trauma and Transformation: A 12-Step Guide." Bill founded the recently launched Adult Survivors of Child Abuse Anonymous (ASCAA). Together they will lead tonight's discussion on STEP 1: "We admitted we were powerless over the abuse and trauma of our youth -- that our lives had become unmanageable." The survivor's decision to begin a process of healing begins with the admission of what happened to them. This involves working through the defenses employed to shun from consciousness the excruciatingly painful memories of the traumatic events. Having passed through this phase of remembering (in any way possible), the acceptance of the truth of the traumatic experience moves the survivor towards resolution. Thus begins the creation of an internal, healing space for the survivor to feel what remained frozen in time, banished and unwelcome in consciousness. ~~ A child abuse survivor herself, Rivka Edery is grateful for the spiritual recovery she found in the 12 Steps of AA. She's been active in the 12 Step community for over 17 years. Bill Murray credits his 30 plus years of recovery to the spiritual power of the 12 Step program, too. ~~ Join us every two weeks to further examine a 12 Step approach to recovery from abuse. Next show we'll address STEP 2 & TRADITION 2. ~~ Please see our web page at: www.NAASCA.org/Trauma-12Step or write to Rivka at: firstname.lastname@example.org
I got into sports to connect with my sports loving husband - he LOVES sports - all the sports. And it wasn’t that I didn’t like sports - I had favorite teams but I didn't really understand sports. I checked out the Football for Dummies and learned the basics. Then I started to play fantasy football and I spent Sundays with my guy watching and discussing football. Here’s the great part - we were spending awesome quality time together - and he didn’t roll his eyes at the “togetherness” because sports is a group activity anyway.
Sports for us has nothing to do with our bills, our kids, our real life. It’s an escape we get to have together.
But so many wives and girlfriends still feel like “sports widows” banished to the sideline while their guys go into the field and emerge after playoffs. Sports widows needed was a show where a woman is speaking directly to them saying - I’ll explain what all this is - you still don’t have to like sports, but I want you to understand why it's so important to him.
Here is what you can expect from the podcast.
Lesson of the week- where I take something from sports and talk about my life, marriage, work or maybe just issue at hand. It’s my chance to show you that sports can represent more than just sweaty guys on a field.
A great guest with amazing insight - I’ve got some awesome people lined up - to explain sports beyond stats and figures and to give some great insight into sports themselves
Question of the week: the question of the week is supplied by you - and I can cover anything dealing with sports to how to handle your guy after a loss to what to bring to a tailgate. You can submit your questions to Ramona@sportsgalpal.com
