Memory Card Full: When Rufus, Liz Weber’s oddly proportioned but adorable dog dies, her life begins to unravel. She is forced to let go of the one constant in her life and move forward. MEMORY CARD FULL is a memoir of her life as a bartender, model and aspiring writer in Manhattan before and after Rufus. Without him, she is alone and broken-hearted and her life spirals downward while her friends and family struggle to understand what she is going through. Prior to Rufus’s death, Liz Weber’s life was far from dull. Whether serving drinks to a gaggle of quirky regulars at a bar or walking around in her skivvies for extra cash as a lingerie model, she fought hard to remain a self-proclaimed “professional free spirit” and aspiring writer; even it meant enduring a lush for a manager or a cranky, Israeli-folk-music-loving boss. None of it really mattered as long as she had Rufus, who taught her about unconditional love in an untraditional way.
MEMORY CARD FULL is the story of Weber’s journey through grief, which leads to an unexpected encounter with the long unheard voice of the woman inside of her. On water skis at an adult sleepaway camp, Liz realizes that there are important things in life that Rufus’s love had caused her to avoid. Embracing her power and strength, she is finally able to accept that letting go of him is the best way to go on and find love for herself and others. Frank, funny, and deeply moving, MEMORY CARD FULL is a memoir for anyone who has loved and lost and found the space in that loss to become the person they were meant to be.
Host Corey Hansford is here to discuss everything Lakers after their first week of the season and you can call in to have your voice heard at (914) 205-5612 to ask any questions or just rant about your frustrations. The first week of the Lakers' season is in the books and it was a rough one as the team lost all four games against teams who won at least 48 games last season. The competition was defficult to be sure, but there were some positives to be had. Kobe still looks like a top player in the league. Jordan Hill and Ed Davis have both been excellent up front. On the other end, the defense still has a long ways to go, Jeremy Lin is struggling, and the Julius Randle injury was heartbreaking. Despite everything, the season is long and a lot of things can happen and we here at Bleed Purple & Gold Radio will be going through everything with you right up to tipoff of tonight's game vs. Phoenix.
Opening night is finally upon us and the Lakers host public enemy no. 1 former Lakers center Dwight Howard and the Houston Rockets. The Lakers had ups and downs all preseason, and injuries continued to plague the team, but now the games matter. Join host Corey Hansford as he takes you to tip off discussing everything about the purple and gold. How will Kobe hold up?? Will the team be able to keep a healthy point guard at any point this year?? Will the young guys, Julius Randle, Ed Davis, Jordan Clarkson continue their great play?? All of that and of course your calls heading into the Lakers first game of the regular season.
November 13 - Blues Guitarist/Composer - Memphis Gold
Blues fans all over the world continue to discover the incredible sounds of Memphis Gold. Born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1955, Memphis Gold, Chester Chandler was the thirteenth child of fourteen. His father also a musician introduced his son to the guitar at the tender age of 4. By the age of 8, he was a regular on historic Beale Street in Memphis where he played the guitar and danced for pocket change from the crowd.
Following in the footsteps of his famous cousins, Grammy Award Winner, Denise Williams, and Author/Activist/Comedian, Dick Gregory, Memphis has come a long way on a journey that has lasted half a century. Having released four full length albums to date, he has shared the stage with such artists as Bernard Allison, David Banner, James Brown, R.L. Burnside, Barbara Carr, Big Lucky Carter, George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic All Stars, Deborah Coleman, Shemikca Copeland, Robert Cray, Eddie Cusac, John Hammond, Little Jimmy King, Bettye Lavette, Johnny Lang, Kenny Neal, Taj Mahal, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, Bobby Parker, Louisianna Red, Lil Jimmy Reed, Jimmie Lee Robinson, Guitar Shorty, Elder Utah Smith, Mavis Staples, Hubert Sumlin, Roomful of Blues, Sister Rosetta Tharpe , Otis Rush, The Temptations, Jimmy Vaughn, and many more.
Get ready for an hour of some good old, down home, foot thumpin blues. As the saying goes, Memphis Gold is definitely the real deal.
The beginning of the season has not gone as planned for the Lakers. Only one win in the team's first eight games has everyone doubting whether or not this team can even match last year's win total. Kobe Bryant's shooting continues to be a major source of conversation, but the up-and-down play of the secondary players like Jordan Hill, Carlos Boozer, Jeremy Lin, and Wesley Johnson has been frustrating to say the least. Let us be your place to let out all of your frustrations with the team, or talk about any reasons for optimism you see. Plus talk on Nick Young's pending return, the Lakers options with their Disabled Player Exception, and anything else you fans want to talk about.
