Although congenital heart defects are the number one birth defect, typically newborns have not been screened for heart defects before leaving the hospital. This has tragically led to some newborns passing away from undiagnosed congenital heart defects, sometimes in their mother’s arms. This was the case for Kristine McCormick when her seemingly healthy daughter Cora passed away in her arms. It wasn’t until Kristine received the autopsy report that she realized Cora was born with a severe, congenital heart defect. Vowing to do all in her power to prevent another mother from experiencing her pain, Kristine joined forces with Annamarie Saarinen and others to petition her state to conduct a simple, non-invasive test to detect some of the deadliest heart defects in newborns. Tune in to this episode of Heart to Heart with Anna to find out how these moms on a mission have been able to convince lawmakers to pass legislation requiring pulse oximetry for newborns and what the results have been.

Now that the autopsy was released Friday, March 21, 2014, Wilbur and Melissa Goodblanket await news on whether or not there will be any charges brought against two Custer County sheriff deputies who shot and killed their 18-year-old teenager son, Mah-hi-vist “Red Bird” Goodblanket, on December 21, 2013. Ma-hi-vist's birthday is April 11. The autopsy report findings indicate the teen was shot seven times with wounds to his head, torso, and right upper arm. Goodblanket was also shot two times by a taser gun. The manner of death is listed as a homicide in the autopsy report. Goodblanket had a blood alcohol level of .10 and no drugs were detected in his system. The two officers were placed in leave after the fatal shooting. They have since returned to active duty. http://nativenewsonline.net/currents/autospy-reveals-cheyenne-arapaho-teen-shot-7-times-deputies/
Custer County District Attorney Dennis Smith said his office will announce its decision on whether the shooting was justified in a week to 10 days. And still the family waits for justice.
I have already made my thoughts known on the Luog Deng-Andrew Bynum trade in a column, the gist of whih is that the big loser in this deal was the Lakers. Go ahead and click through and give it a read as you listen to this audio from the NBA's Sirius-XM radio channel, in which I go into further detail about why Mitch Kupchak blew a golden opportunity to set the Lakers up for having a spectacular team -- and not having to pay the repeated luxury tax -- in the 2015-16 season, when Kobe Bryant
What to make of the Pacers' come-from-behind vicory over the Miami Heat on Tuesday night. Well, for starters, it provided some validation for Indiana after their scintillating start to the season. showing that they have the goods (and the composure) to compete with the two-time defending champs. But when will REAL validation come? How about a week from now when the two teams meet in Miami? In this interview on the Big O show on AM640 in Miami, Chris Sheridan of SheridanHoops discusses how
The tragic and unthinkable story of young PFC Lavena Johnson still rings loudly in a call for justice seven years after her death. The Department of Defense ruled her death a suicide, although numerous facts in the case defies that possiblity. Her skull showed a bullet which entered in a manner inconsistent with suicide, acid burns to her genitals, a black eye and loose teeth were also observed by her father and medical examiner during her autopsy. After much stonewalling of access to Lavena's medical records by the Dept. of Defense, the Johnsons managed to get some doors to open and her case attracted worldwide attention. To date, no formal permission to investigate her case as a rape-murder has been given. Join us tonight as we speak with LaQuay Juel, a citizen who began a nationwide petition in Lavena Johnson's honor to appeal to the powers that be, and Sky Grid, host of the Grid10 radio show, as we all share our thoughts on the case and spread more awareness to a call for action against discrimination, rape and bullying in the military in wake of this tragedy. Both Lavena and her family need some much needed closure and justice in this matter.
Ali and Robert Stacy McCain, Editor-in-Chief of ViralRead.com, will discuss the hearing today that revoked 19-year-old Kaitlyn Hunt's bond after evidence was found that she had not only been contacting her child-victim girlfriend, but also sending lewd images of herself as well. McCain will also tell us why he believes "stupid people belong in jail." UPDATE: Michael Hastings autopsy report has been made public. Ali and McCain will discuss this late-breaking development.
In this episode we speak with Pastor Victor White Sr. and his attorney Carol Powell-Lexing about the investigation into the mysterious death of Victor White III in police custody. After an arrest for marijuana possession by Iberia Parish, Louisiana sheriff deputies, Victor White III allegedly shot himself in the back while handcuffed as he sat in the backseat of the police car.
There is an ongoing investigation by the Louisiana State Police. However, because of suspicions of police misconduct, the relatives of Victor White III are raising funds in hopes of securing an independent autopsy report. Join us as we shed some much-needed light on this case.
