An Artist Speaks Season 4 Episode 21 with Guest Artist John Jaster

    in Art

Join host Michael Harris as he speaks with artist John Jaster.  John is a part-time painter living in the Southern California mountains. He used to do a lot of painting and drawing years ago but drifted away over time. Although his degrees are in computer science, he never stopped exercising the right side of his brain. John re-engaged with the craft of painting a few years ago when his lovely wife bought him an easel for Christmas. Each new painting he attempts brings a new learning experience.  “I paint with heavy acrylics. My paintings tend to be on large canvases with bold colors in hi-definition. One can identify themes of water, blue skies, and automobiles and Americana throughout most of my work. I describe my format as 'realistic impressions' because, although my work is definitely in the realism genera, I have splashes of impressionistic colors throughout.”

Science shall tell us what to do, as evidenced by myriad manifestations ranging from regulating how long one may spend in one’s shower at home to the EPA’s wish to outlaw wood-burning stoves to central regulation of one’s thermostat from downtown, to the elimination of privately-owned single-dwelling homes and private automobiles as called for by the United Nations’ Agenda 21. Scientism is at the base of Technocracy. Here are some notes from Patrick Wood regarding Scientism: /

    1. The application of scientific methods to social and political modeling
    2. Science is the absolute and only access to truth and reality about man and the universe
    3. Scientism is specifically opposed to the Holy Bible as truth
    4. Scientism upholds Atheism – there is no God
    5. Scientism purports to be predictive, able to foretell the future
    6. Scientism rejects any opposing inquiry
    7. Scientism demands acceptance by non-scientists /

Scientism is defined at Wikipedia this way: /

“Scientism is belief in the universal applicability of the scientific method and approach, and the view that empirical science constitutes the most authoritative worldview or most valuable part of human learning to the exclusion of other viewpoints.”

Classic Chrome with Panhead Jim of Riding Vintage Blog

    in Automotive

Special Guests: “Panhead Jim” Mahaney, Historian, Blogger and Vintage Enthusiast

Ever since the widespread introduction of automobiles and motorcycles, their owners have set out to see the world around them from behind the controls. The early days saw most enthusiasts trying to cross the United States from coast-to-coast; not an easy task when the majority of the country was still unpopulated and lacking proper roads. These trips were often treacherous and long, but still the popularity grew. Today, the thought of touring the country is still exciting, but is nowhere near as treacherous. Cross-country trips today are usually done from the comfort of a climate controlled auto or large touring motorcycle. But, this week on Classic Chrome, we are joined by an old bike enthusiast who is setting out on his own to prove that old machines can still reliably make the journey. “Panhead Jim” Mahaney, who lives in North Carolina, is well-known for his antique motorcycle blog “Riding Vintage”. Jim is also a contributor to numerous magazines, such as American Iron, and has ridden many thousands of miles on old machines. Currently, Jim is in the process of building a 1933 Harley Davidson VL which he will be riding solo across the United States from California to North Carolina.
