The Awesome Nah Sun is in command of Author Talk

    in Books

Size still matters in the mind of Chance who was once slender, but later enjoyed the thrill of sudden thickness. She struggles with dieting and working out to lose a few pounds to live thick and fit.

While Chance balances her shape and size, Veronique suffers in a household where her fullness is frowned upon by her father. Issues of family tradition along with her love affair with Lakim also complicate her lifestyle when she walks the thin line between pop culture and family customs.

Fashion shows, court dates, ex-lovers, and culture clashes pack the punch in to this drama-erotic sequel to Thick when the Chances are Slim. Feel the blaze…a Nah’Sun blaze.

Ebola, Staten Island Emergency Doctor, Ishmael Griffin Shares information

    in Education

Ebola, Staten Island Emergency Doctor, Ishmael Griffin Shares information.

The largest Liberian community outside Monrovia is in Staten Island, New York.

Concerns about Ebola have forced many in the community to cancel their trips back home, but some have left the US before the outbreak and their return sparks fear about the risk of an outbreak in New York.

Among the biggest concerns is whether the outbreak could spread to the United States after two American missionaries contracted Ebola in Liberia.

According to an infectious disease specialist with Staten Island University Hospital, it is highly unlikely.

"We aren't at risk of having an Ebola epidemic in America," said Dr. Ambreen Khalil. "Eighty to 90 percent of people die from Ebola, but it's not an American disease."

In Little Liberia, Jalloh is not alone in her concern. Many Liberian-Americans share her fears. Momo Fully, a father of four, lost his cousin to Ebola in August. He worries the disease, which has killed more than 3,000 people in West Africa, could take hold in the United States.

“People go back and forth all the time. There’s always the possibly of Ebola coming to America and spreading,” he said.

Health experts stress that despite the first Ebola diagnosis on U.S. soil, chances of an outbreak are very slim, given the far superior hospital services here.

You can't choose who you fall in love with...All her life LaToya Morris wanted to get married, have lots of kids and take care of the household like her mother did. Raised in a Christian home in Texas she grew up in a different atmosphere, her father was a preacher and mother a high school teacher. When she moved to Charlotte, NC for college she never thought she'd fall in love with a hood guy like Montrell Johnson. He was everything her parent's warned her against growing up: long dreads, tattoos all over his body, and a rising coke boy in the streets of Charlotte. Yet Montrell opened LaToya's eyes to a different way of life, despite his lifestyle and their differences, and families trying to tear them apart they never separated. Now, five years later they got married and are expecting their first child, everything is going great until Montrell gets arrested and LaToya is alone and pregnant, nothing could prepare LaToya for the ride she is about to endure, Montrell hates he's put her in this situation because the streets have no conscience or love, and hope she's ready.

Meet author Stephen W. Hiemstra. I'll be interviewing him about his book, A Christian Guide to Spirituality: Foundations for Disciples

    About the book:

A Christian Guide to Spirituality takes the form of 50 daily devotions. Each topic is treated with a scriptural reference, reflection, prayer, and questions for discussion. Occasionally, references are provided for further study. The first four chapters (Introduction, Apostle’s Creed, Lord’s Prayer, and Ten Commandments) cover 40 days making them suitable as a Lenten study. Ten additional days focus on the spiritual disciplines and a short conclusion. Fifty days of study allow an Easter study running through Pentecost.

    About the author:

Author Stephen W. Hiemstra (MDiv, PhD) is a slave of Christ, husband, father, tentmaker, economist, and writer. He lives with Maryam, his wife of thirty years, in Centreville, VA and they have three grown children.

Stephen has been an active writer spanning both his career as an economist and a pastor. As an economist of 27 years in 5 federal agencies, he published numerous government studies, magazine articles, and book reviews. He has maintained a personal website since the 1990s and he has been active in social media. A Christian Guide to Spirituality is his first published book.

Stephen is currently a second career tentmaker dividing his time equally between Hispanic ministry and blogging under a theme of “online pastor”. As a hospital chaplain intern, he worked in the emergency department, a psychiatric unit, and an Alzheimer’s unit. He is an elder in Centreville Presbyterian Church.
