    Children: Attention Deficit Disorder

    in Lifestyle

Sabrina will discuss the signs and systoms of ADHD/ADD and what parents can do to help their child be successful in school and other settings.  "ADHD, also known as attention deficit disorder (ADD) or hyperkinetic disorder, has been around a lot longer than most people realize. In fact, a condition that appears to be similar to ADHD was described by Hippocrates, who lived from 460 to 370 BC. The name Attention Deficit Disorder was first introduced in 1980 in the third edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders" (http://psychcentral.com/disorders/childhood-adhd/,2015).

WHO'S TO BLAME: AWD - Attention Whore Disorder

    in Politics

Issue:  Attention Whore Disorder is rampant.  Who's to Blame?

Should we blame the most recent attention whore Jasmine Tridevil directly?  She does want attention afterall.  Or is it deeper?  Tridevil is not the only attention whore, I mean a picture of Ann Coulter pops in my head when I say attention whore.  Also Sarah Palin. All reality show celebrities.

Do we Blame media for running stories like these?  It's so in our face.  I couldn't avoid seeing Tridevil's story in my feed.

Are consumers to Blame?  We are the one's who eat it up.

What about social media, where everybody is a star if they can get enough likes?

    Is it an illness?

We address why it's so difficult and particularly hard for those with ADHD. Nutrition and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)

    in Education

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a puzzle. While the number of people diagnosed with ADHD is on the rise, there is still debate about whether ADHD is a real disorder, and debate about whether people, children especially, with ADHD should be prescribed medication to treat their symptoms. Despite the debates, there does seem to be a link between the symptoms of ADHD and mass-produced foods with lots of sodium, sugar, chemicals, and other additives.

Dr. Rachel V. Gow is a neuroscientist whose expertise is ADHD, and particularly the impact of food, diet, and nutrition on the development and treatment of ADHD. She'll help us sort through the puzzle that is ADHD and talk about the importance of nutrition for children with ADHD and for all of us.

Know-It-All Host, Allison R. Brown, is a civil rights attorney and President of Allison Brown Consulting (ABC), which creates education equity plans and works with entities to promote equity in education.

What? ADHD Lucked out of ADAAA in Section 504?

    in Self Help

When laws are passed to protect those in need, agencies of the government are required to write regulations used to adhere to these laws. Who ensures that those with ADHD are protected under these acts? Politicians? Bureaucrats? Who speaks for the ADHD community at large? In this episode of Attention Talk Radio, we'll be interviewing Ingrid Alpern, co-chair of CHADD's public policy committee, for it is they who are actively involved with ensuring that attention deficit disorder is specifically listed as a disability in the 2008 amended act of ADA, which also impacts Section 504 plans. This show will enlighten and inspire you. It will give you reason to understand why everyone should be a part of CHADD (http://www.chadd.org) so that we may come together and speak with one voice.
