If you didn't believe in miracles before today's game, you do now. The Athletics got out to a horrible start committing 3 errors and giving up 3 runs to the lowly Houston Astros. Behind the bats of Chris Young and Josh Reddick, the Athletics pulled off a thriller at Minute Maid Park late Monday night. Me and the boys discuss on this edition of Gold Jersey Dynasty.
Within college athletics, money is king. In 2012 alone, the 6 major conferences generated $1.9 billion. In today's college athletic landscape what is a student/athlete? Should the student /athlete share in this money? Does the NCAA and its member insitutions have PR implications around this issue? These questions will be discussed and debated on this show titled "College Athletics & Money" with panel guests, PR expert, Ms. Linda Olatunde, Prinicipal and Mangagning Director of
Sickle cell trait is the No. 1 killer in Division I football but what about other sports or what about the weekend warrior? The lack of oxygen can cause a portion your spleen to die, thus setting off a chain reaction of internal problems. During intense exercise, red blood cells containing sickle hemoglobin can change shape from round to quarter-moon, or “sickle.” Sickle red cells may accumulate in the bloodstream during intense exercise, blocking normal blood flow to the tissues and muscles. Athletes with sickle cell trait have experienced significant physical distress, collapsed and even died. Heat, dehydration, altitude and asthma can increase the risk for and worsen complications associated with sickle cell trait, even when exercise is not intense. Your Knowledge of sickle cell trait status can be a portal to knowing yourself and acquire simple precautions that may prevent collapse among athletes with sickle cell trait, allowing them to thrive in sports.
On this episode of the Yanks Go Yard Series Preview Show, presented by BaldVinny.com, Ricky talks about the Yankees' series in Seattle and his thoughts on some of New York's early picks in the MLB Draft earlier this week.
Also, he speaks with Devin Pangaro of SwinginA's.com as the Athletics host the Yankees in a 3-game series beginning Tuesday. Oakland took 2 of 3 from the Yankees in May, but can NY even the score on the West Coast?
The SEC proved it is the dominant conference in college football once again in what ended up as a less than entertaining BCS National Championship Game. But sometimes, a victory is more than just a victory!! On this week's GCL SportsBiz Brief, we'll analyze a hidden aspect of the 'Bama victory.
Do you ever wonder what the impact of Alabama's "dynasty" in college football will have on-campus? There's no doubt that Alabama's 42-14 thrashing of Notre Dame will definitely help Nick Saban secure another Top 5 recruiting class on signing day in February and will help the ticket office continue its streak of consecutive sellouts in the 100,000 stadium. But what impact will this victory have on the # of applicants, the SAT scores of those applicants, donations to the university, and more? Does a strong football program impact the quality of student who attends a university?
We are joined by Professor Michael Anderson who will discuss the correlation between strong athletic programs at the collegiate level and SAT scores (or academic success).
Anderson, Professor of Economics at UC Berkeley and a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economics, has written a fascinating research paper that states that spending on college athletics is justified because a successful college program attracts better students to the institution as well as other beneficial outcomes.
Join us Tuesday at Noon ET/9am PT for this conversation (and more) as we also cover 5 Hot Topics in SportsBiz heading into 2013!
Tonight, we are breaking down the Yankees' first West Coast series of the year. They will take on the Oakland Athletics who are off to a good start this year.
