Stephen Hawking, Richard Dawkins, and the Anti-Christ Spirit

    in Education

"Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist,"  -Stephen Hawking "The Grand Design"

My eyes are constantly wide open to the extraordinary fact of existence. Not just human existence, but the existence of life and how this breathtakingly powerful process, which is natural selection, has managed to take the very simple facts of physics and chemistry and build them up to redwood trees and humans.  We cannot, of course, disprove God, just as we can't disprove Thor, fairies, leprechauns and the Flying Spaghetti Monster.  -Richard Dawkins

The Ford Motor Car:  A primitive man comes across Model-T truck.  He figures out how to drive it, but sometimes it doesn’t run very well, and other times it does.  He concludes that there is a god inside the truck, and when the god is happy it runs well, but when the god is mad it doesn't.  In time the caveman learns how the engine works, as well as the importance of spark plugs, oil, and gas.  Having mastered mechanical and chemical engineering, he concludes that there is no god inside the car, but rather the car simply came about as a result of the laws of nature, and given enough time and random events, many more cars would come about the same way.  The caveman is confusing the agent (Henry Ford) with the mechanism (the Model-T truck).  Henry Ford created the Model T truck.  Mr. Ford used his knowledge of the laws of physics and chemistry as a means to create the truck.  Having the ability to describe how the truck works does not do away with the necessity of Henry Ford, who designed the truck in the first place.  It follows that having an understanding the laws of astrophysics, does not disprove God. -John Lennox (parapharased)

    in Books

The Speculative Fiction Cantina: your weekly hypodermic injection of science fiction, fantasy, horror, alternate history, and things weird and wonderful in the world of books and writers. We ask authors the hard questions. You'll hear from writers who bend the rules and drive the narrative.  Join S. Evan Townsend on this journey over the rainbow and through the looking glass. And remember to take the red pill.

Today's special guest is Stephanie Osborn

Few can claim the varied background of Stephanie Osborn, the Interstellar Woman of Mystery.

Veteran of more than 20 years in the civilian space program, as well as various military space defense programs, she worked on numerous space shuttle flights and the International Space Station, and counts the training of astronauts on her resumé. Her space experience also includes Spacelab and ISS operations, variable star astrophysics, Martian aeolian geophysics, radiation physics, and nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons effects.

Stephanie holds graduate and undergraduate degrees in four sciences: astronomy, physics, chemistry and mathematics, and she is “fluent” in several more, including geology and anatomy.

Now retired from space work, Stephanie has trained her sights on writing. She has authored, co-authored, or contributed to more than 20 books, including the celebrated science-fiction mystery, Burnout: The Mystery of Space Shuttle STS-281. She is the co-author of the “Cresperian Saga,” book series, and currently writes the critically acclaimed “Displaced Detective” series.

LatinoTalk Texas 2014, 0002 The Independent Latino Perspective on Immigration

    in Politics

LatinoTalk Texas is about News, interviews and opinion on topic important to American Latinos.  Find us at www.latinotalktexas.com and on Facebook.  I am your host, Lauro Garza, and I can be found on Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+.  This is our second episode and I spend some time introducting the show and myself.  I read comments from David Jennings from "Big Jolly Politics"  who is a journalist in Houston who sought to learn my positions on "illegal immigration" which, undoubtedly, most conservatives think that is the only thing we Latino think about.  I read also my comments back to Jennings include my assertions that America needs both border security but also and very importantly that America needs MORE immigration. To be successful,  We must also overcome the vocal minority of representatives who advocate the evil John Tanton Network who are anti-Latino and are population control radical environmentalists who all come from Planned Parenthood.  I assert that because these radicals have leaders at the highest levels in the Demcrat Party and, through the Tea Parties, also in the Republican Party that Latinos have NO friends anywhere and we should all be INDEPEDENT.

I read the headlines from my main source of news, CatholicPulse.com, the news service of the Knights of Columbus, because it is a great source of news and the news service of the Knights of Columbus of which I am a long time member.
