Chris Delaney – Tattoo Artist/Owner of Almighty Ink in Asbury Park

    in Radio

Tattoos. More and more Americans are getting inked according to a recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll. In 1999, approx 21% of the respondents said someone in their household had a tattoo, and today that number has risen to 40 percent. Military veterans and those currently serving in the armed forces have the most ink -- 36 % have a tattoo. I’m a fan of tattoos as well with 5 small ones in various private locations. But mostly I’m a huge fan of tattoo artists and fascinated by their artistry and ability to create amazing designs on the human canvas. Tattoo artist Chris Delaney established Almighty Ink in 2002 in Asbury Park as a private studio to focus on creating large format full body tattoos for discerning tattoo enthusiasts. If you want a tiny butterfly on your ankle, you’ll have to go elsewhere. Chris began tattooing at the age of 16 and purchased his first professional tattoo equipment in 1989 and began implementing his vision of custom tattoos. He is proficient in most tattoo styles but prefers to work in a bold and expressive fashion, as well as exploring the more obscure low-brow art genres. His influences vary widely, and he consequently enjoys a special clientele that allow him to freely express his creative ideas. Chris chooses his clients based on their unique tattoo desires and as to whether it fits his personal style. After the interview, please visit After Hours At Jersey Coastal Live.

Mayor Ed Johnson of Asbury Park

    in Radio

I love Asbury Park. Many of my best childhood memories are tied to this city, and I never imagined myself living back in this area as an adult. Just as my life has undergone many changes over the years, and so has Asbury Park. For better or worse, change is inevitable, and this city has seen it all. Mayor Ed Johnson has served Asbury Park for the past fifteen years as Mayor, City Councilman, and Chairman of the Urban Enterprise Zone. During his service, he has committed himself to the growth and development of Asbury Park as one community in which everyone shares in both the benefits and responsibilities of a 21st Century Jersey Shore City. Mayor Johnson has presided over the resurgence of Asbury Park as a residential community with an attractive and growing business center as well as a thriving tourist destination. In October of 2013, Superstorm Sandy arrived and laid waste to the Jersey Shore coastline including Asbury Park. Rebuilding has been underway for months and the Mayor has a message to share: “We’re getting ready for the summer of the century in Asbury Park. This is the stuff history books are made of,” he said. “This is the new chapter of Asbury Park … get ready for great things here.” In other words – Asbury Park is open for business!
Mayor Johnson is a member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a gun control advocacy group co-chaired by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino. He’s also a strong advocate for accessible quality education. Asbury Park Mayor since 2005, this will be his last term. And what’s in the cards next for Johnson? He’ll share that and more, so be sure to tune in. After the interview, please check out After Hours at Jersey Coastal Live for additional information.

Comedian Sunda Croonquist at Asbury Park Comedy Festival

    in Radio

Life is funny. But Sunda Croonquist’s life is funnier. In her words, “When you’re Swedish and black and you look like a Puerto Rican, with an Italian stepfather and a Jehovah’s Witness mom who loves Country Western music, and sells Mary Kay while cheating on Amway, sends you to an Irish Catholic school with a Hindu first name, you’re bound to be different!” Add a Jewish lawyer husband to the mix, and Sunda had to become a comedian. Inspired by her father’s career as a musician and having a stage/pageant mom, she wanted to be an entertainer at a very young age. Sunda worked as a probation and parole review officer in Newark and later as a detective while taking acting classes and landed roles in local plays and films. While in NY, Sunda was joking around at a party and met Jackie Mason, who told her to consider doing standup. With her husband’s encouragement, she took a comedy class and had her first paid gig at a club called Don’t Tell Mama. Sunda was named NJ’s Funniest Female before landing roles on television and eventually getting a talk show, James and Sunda, which airs on JLTV (Jewish Life TV). She’s been featured on comedy shows and talk shows including: The Today Show, Nick Moms, Entertainment Tonight, Oprah’s, OWN, The Doctors, and recently featured on The View. And now you can catch Sunda Croonquist at the Asbury Park Comedy Festival this weekend at the Paramount Theatre. Did I mention she had legal issues with her mother-in-law? She’ll probably tell you herself. After the interview, please check out After Hours at Jersey Coastal Live for additional information.
